kathleen ducharmekathleen ducharme: I was deciding to do a complete makeover for my tanks, I needed a substrate that would support live plants 🌱 I was done with plastic plants and ready to take on the change, I love this substrate! Bags are surprisingly light considering they are 20 lbs a piece, easy to spread, plants stay put and flourish! Only problem I see is my snails keep getting the gravel stuck inside them (but they have figured out how to fix that!) I recommend this substrate to anyone who wants no fuss, and plant friendly beautiful gravel in their aquariums you won’t be disappointed!

Kip M.: I have a 75 gallon i started a month ago. I put this in the center, in the back, 6" x 36". Its about 4" deep. I have ferns and Amazon swords. No lead weights. Don't like them. The plants have stayed down. Put fluval grow tabs in with the leaf growth. My plants are 9" high now. The rest of the tank has river rock. This substrate is really good.

FRANK G.: The best I've found for plants. I've tried numerous substrates ,I never vacuum, detritus,and uneaten food works its way down for biological fertilizer for roots. I've only ever used the black type. Keep and utilize the extra biological liquid in the bag. No rinse required. Draw back it's very expensive but it's an exceptional product.

Amazon CustomerAmazon Customer: I currently only have live floating plants in my tank (frogbit) but it is lovely and they have flourished since adding it to my tank over a month ago. My Betta loves to sleep on the bottom of his tank with the substrate. Also cleaning with an aquarium gravel is so simple. The rocks arrange themselves so nothing can sink to the bottom, so like sand, you have to vaccum off the surface, no need to vaccum the gravel itself. I'm very pleased with this substrate.

Dana: I bought 3 for a 40 gallon and that was beyond plenty! It is a great medium for my erupts, moneywort and watersprite to grow in and has the black color I was going for.

My only problem is that this is not suitable for fish larger than 2 inches. My 5 inch Ranchu loves to burrow through the gravel to search for snacks and often time inhaled gravel, having to chew and spit it back out. Other goldfish owners warn that their pets have chocked on smaller gravel. I suggest nothing below the 3 mm mark for your gravel if you own big guys like me, safety first.
