Capstone Hitch Mount 2-Bike Carrier: Securely Transport Up to Two Bikes Anywhere!

JJJJ: I have used this rack for 2 years now & have been generally pleased. We carry 2 e-bikes, one 70# one 52# with modifications to rack. I added a hitch tightener bought on Amazon & added to I-bolts in holes by centre pole at wheel tray level. These I-bolts are to hook bungi cords to keep the hooks from sliding up when travelling.

My one big problem has been the short, lockable hook which has never worked properly. I have sent e-mails with videos to Kent bikes showing the problem. Dan from C/S has been good to get back to me but he has not been able to get me a replacement short hook from Capstone.

Other then that one problem it is a great rack at a reasonable price and over-all very pleased with the way our two E-bikes ride when loaded on the rack & the ease of unloading is simple. See pictures were I use adapter bars which work great to keep bikes firmly in place.

Amazon Customer: This straight up works. I use it with a Grand Cherokee SRT - the only wobbling you get is over bad roads, and is no more than what you should expect. High quality, looks great, tilts to allow use of the hatch while loaded or empty. Was everything it says it is.

Scott Schoenick: I don't typically write reviews, but I'm making an exception because this bike carrier is such an incredible value.

Needing a towing hitch assembly ($150) installed ($150), I was sick about spending another $300-$400+ for a carrier. I agonized over this Capstone carrier for weeks, first because at $130 it was a fraction of the price of other carriers, so seemed to good to be true. My main worry was the weight of the bikes, as manufacturer doesn't rate it as suitable for 120 lbs. of fat tire electric bikes. Other reviewers have offered testimony that it is. Trust me, it is. I've got two 60 lb.+ Rad electric bikes with 4.5" tires and they fit like it was made for them. I've been carting the bikes around for about a month now, and the carrier has performed flawlessly.

A few things I've learned from my experience:

1) Another reviewer noted the Velcro tire straps were a bit too short for fat tires. I found that not to be true, although I did swap them out for some black ones for aesthetic reasons. 2) Other reviews have also noted the tilting mechanism failed while they were in transit. SSIDave: Well made .Strong powder coated steel 2" hitch. Good instructions.
Rack swings to the side but doesn't allow access to the Jeep Grand Cherokee trunk as the rack fouls the door with a bike loaded. It tilts also but with a couple of bikes on it.. its heavy.
Im very happy with the purchase and will only use the tilt when the rack is empty.
Im using it for carrying one electric bike or two regular mountain bikes.

CT: UPDATE: I was stopped the other day at the intersection of a dirt driveway and a very busy road. I needed to turn left. I had to wait for a break in traffic. Dangerous rd. The dirt driveway was also slightly below grade to the main road so about a 4 inch pop onto the main road. I gunned my Wrangler and turned sharp left into the lane of traffic. I have done this before without issue. This time the straps that hold the bike wheels in place failed and the bike tires came off of the rack. The bike was dangling. I pulled over and redid the straps. DO NOT TRUST THE VELCRO TIRE STRAPS! I will now use a rope or something else to actually tie down each tire.

My fat tires barley fit but they do. 4" wide. They sit barley but it's not an issue. I feel for the price this is a decent carrier. It's not fancy at all. Just does the job. It's not pretty. Just works. I carry 1, 70lb ebike on it (Rad Power Bike Radrover). The tires strap on with Velcro. That doesnt seem very secure to me but it does work. D. AdamecD. Adamec: This is the first product in a long time that I truly felt was worth the price. Even far more than what I paid to be honest. I've had a handful of racks from the other manufacturers and this one is just so well thought out (and at least 1/4 the price).

The packaging was excellent. Instructions were very clear and only took a few minutes to set up. The anti-wiggle mechanism is genius. Once tightened, the rack is as solid as the hitch. There are 3 locks included. One for connecting the hitch and one for each bike on the lock knobs. When not in use the rack can be easily folded to the side or removed by just loosening the knob on the rack. You can also tilt the rack down quickly by just pulling out on the reflector on the back of the rack.

I never thought my fat tire bike with 4" wide tires would fit on a rack but it fits and has room to spare. I can't say enough good about this rack. Would definitely recommend over and over.
