Canon CanoScan LiDE400: High-Speed Document Scanning for Professional Results

Actual User: Received and set up all good and easy. Went to register and spent hours eventually finding out that this scanner was packaged by Canon for sale in South America. Canon support would not talk to me until I registered and it would not allow me to register (as I am located in North American). Problem is they do not tell you why they will not register it. Went round and round with Canon until I finally found someone to talk to me who took a nano second to tell me the problem. Canon refused to register for warranty purposes and instructed me to return the scanner to the Seller. I contacted the Seller who promptly responded and advised that they would honor the typical Canon warranty. Since my last Canon scanner lasted over ten years (still works today but not with Windows 11) I decided not to go through the hassle of returning the scanner to Seller and finding a Seller who actually would sell me one that I could register with Canon. I took the practical route. Time will tell if I will need to test the Sellers commitment to honor the warranty. I would have rated the product with 5 stars but dinged the review for one start berceuse of the registration/warranty issue....

Joelle: I like the scanner well enough, I use it for artwork and the colors are ok, I usually have to do a little adjusting. The only trouble I had was with the set-up, but if you read the instructions they make it clear: move the lock button on the bottom and download the driver at ij.start.canon.

Dennis Pfiffner: Oh so easy to set up! No more than 15 minutes to configure and test the buttons, Photos to Adobe Elements, Documents to Adobe DC, Copy to my Laser Printer and E-mail to MS Outlook.
The software is easy to use and all the scanner options are easy to find. Do not let the small size fool you.
This is the 1st scanner I have bought since 2003, an Epson 4490 Photo, It's HUGE compared to the Canon. 4800 dpi in a scanner an inch and 3/4 tall. Higher the dpi you set the longer it takes to scan. This is with any scanner.
Bottom line: For the money, I'm extremely happy with its performance!!

Amazon Customer: I have a lot of antique family photos I want to share with family and wanted a lightweight scanner that wouldn't take up too much storage room and still do a good job. This one works fine for this project and the size makes it perfect to put away tidily between sessions.

TheChosenOne: First off, let me start with saying I wanted to like this product. That was short lived.

Right out of the box the installation was easy and then it went downhill. The driver that connects the scanner to the computer does not work. Even after being on the phone with Canon for 30 minutes. I tried Windows and Mac with no success. All I keep getting is Code 2,156,33 which no documentation exists for these particular errors.

The real kicker however is the terrible support structure for the product. In order to contact Canon you need to create an account and register your product. This is where I had even more trouble. When I tried to register my product it did not recognize my serial number, so I could not complete registration. But you cannot get support options until you register. So I was stuck in this loop and it became very frustrating. Finally I found Canons number on google. It went to the sales team, so they transferred me to customer service. Once connected I received an automated agent requesting the phone number associated with my account. Well since I could not complete registration, the phone number did not exist in the system. Jason MJason M: Recently I needed to scan crates of old family photographs before I put them in storage or sent them on to relatives. I already had a scanner but it wasn't good for the job. The Canon LiDE 400 was the solution I needed.

QUALITY OF THE PHOTOS
The LiDE 400 gives me good-quality scans of my photographs. It is good enough for family photos that I will pass on to other relatives and probably never touch again. The maximum resolution is 1200x1200 dots per inch. I can scan tiny pictures at that resolution and enlarge them to see details I would have missed otherwise. (Although this depends on the quality of the original pictures.)

AUTOMATION
The LiDE 400 has an auto-scan feature, which makes it easier to get through a lot of pictures. You can put a photograph on the scan bed and press a single button. The scanner will automatically scan the picture at 300 dpi, crop and rotate the picture, and place it in a folder on your computer.

Sometimes the auto-scan feature doesn't do exactly what I expect. Sometimes it crops off the white boarders in a weird way. Occasionally it decides to make my photos into PDF files instead of JPEGs. If...
