Pano: This little scanner is quote the workhorse. When I got it I sat down and scanned about 3500 documents - some text, some photos. Never a glitch. And the results are nice.

Now I didn't expect this given the price, but it certainly exceed my expectations. I know high end scanners, I used them for a living and most scanners I used cost several thousand dollars. Does this inexpensive little Canon beat those? No, not at all. But it does very well on both text documents and photos.

The bulk of my scanning was black and white 8x10 photos from the 1950-1970s. The Lide 300 captured all there was to get, no problem with shadows, no blown out highlights. I scanned the 8x10s at 400 dpi and they look great. I experimented with 600 dpi, but the difference in detail was so slight that it wasn't worth it. At 600 dpi 100% zoom there was a tiny bit more detail than at 400dpi, but mostly it was just more grain. It felt like I had reached the limit of what the prints had to offer. Anything smaller than 8x10 I scanned at 600dpi, just for sake of it. Color photos were nice too, even the faded ones. Printed test of course was clean and crisp.

Software: I used the included Canon...

Jordan T.: When i saw this scanner was a little over $50, i was a little sceptical on it, not expecting it to be that great. Set up was easy(was able to do so on my old microsoft surface 3 without a hitch), and it turns on with the device its connected to, so its perfect for small spaces and on the go! Its about the size of a decent sized laptop, so it fits in a messenger bag, so just find a table at a cafe and scan away! No outlet required!
The images it produced were crisp, just a LITTLE over saturated, but nothing a little color correcting cant fix.
I use this to scan the pages of a comic im writing and drawing, and if you scan a page with color, it does end up a little over saturated, but again, nothing a little color correcting cant fix.
It scans fairly quickly, but you do have to hold the buttons down for a second for it to register it, not a quick press and scan.
But all in all, its a good scanner, its lightweight, portable, and all for an amazing price! If it works on a device from 2015, it will more than likely work on any laptop or computer you have, no matter the form its in, so long that it has a usb port.
If your a student who needs to scan notes or textbooks into...

Jeannie: I needed a flatbed type portable scanner I could use with my laptop when away from home. This one seems to meet that need for me (I haven't traveled with it yet).

Since I use Linux Mint, the Canon software wouldn't work (shame on you, Canon, for not making Linux compatible drivers!), so I can't comment on how well the scanner works with Canon's software. I already use Hamrick's VueScan software on my other two scanners, a Canon 9000F flatbed scanner, and a Fujitsu ix500 duplexing, ADF scanner (both of which are NOT what I would consider portable!) and it works well with this scanner once I updated it. I haven't tried to use any of the scanners buttons since Vuescan easily and conveniently does it all from within the software.

When I first tried to use the scanner with Vuescan, I went nuts trying to get the software settings to work the way I needed. It then dawned on me that I hadn't updated VueScan in quite a while since "nothing was broke so don't fix it." After I updated Vuescan (although the .deb version would probably work, the tarball—.tgz—version, when extracted, had a simple to use installer that automagically updated the current installation without...
