John: Love the axe. Cover arrived damaged. Not completely comfortable transporting now as it is very sharp and can't be safety stowed in the case.

Alex T.: This is a good compact hatchet. I use it for hiking. The holdster did not complete the first activity. Due to the way it is put together, the blade simply cuts trough the seam. The holdster is not made to last. I had the sew it back together. It should be good now. Buy knowing this.

SilverBuzz: Awesome small ax. Handle is great. Weight is heavy and chopped my real yard 1/4"- 3/8" thick branches from weed that was growing into a tree. All the branches took one chop. I couldn't believe how well it chopped it down. I was done in 15 min. I normally use an electrical cutter. This was so much easier. I have no doubt this will work on light branches in the field. If anything, it works great for landscape maintenance and that along makes this tool worthy of purchase! Very sharp from manufacturer but I sharpened it even more after I wasfi iahed. Can't wait to see what else it does!!

eli: This hatchet will be very useful in the bush... it will no doubt take a beating and the business edge is long and gradual and can stand in for a knife blade anyday. It's also very sharp, no need to regrind or even hone, though it could use with a micro-bevel if it will see heavy, prolonged use. Ergonomics is perfect for decent swing weight, handle is very grippy and won't fly out of your hand easily, even in heavy use. The weight is decently low as well, for a hatchet of this size. This is one area where proper weight to use ratio is important. Not enough and it's simply a useless hatchet. Too much and your back will complain. This tool is a pretty good balance. If even more weight is needed, there is a largish hole (approx .5 inch or a bit over a centimeter) in the back of the blade that you could lash a rock or a heavy something to it as well, to increase momentum weight. The sheath is very nice looking, but has been designed poorly in that the threads of it are directly exposed to the very sharp blade. It' will fail within the first day. Too bad, as the sheath is very well made otherwise, and is a higher quality material than expected. I shoved some tough duct tape layers into...

Amazon Customer: Awesome little cheap (inexpensive) hatchet.
Don't expect to split logs or anything but if you need to take down a sapling or skin something I can see this being a solid tool.
I took it out and went through a few logs of cedar, lightweight so very little arm fatigue and it stayed very sharp for what I put it through.
Had to give it 4 out of 5 because it's so sharp in fact it well...cut through the sheath.
So hatchet 5/5 sheath 3/5 makes it a 4/5 for this tool.
Makes kindling well, can be used to split (sort of) with a hammer/heavy stick etc., lightweight and sharp.

Just MeJust Me: These are nice little hatchets for keeping in the trunk of your car. Think of them as a piece of emergency gear. It's not something that you purposely want to head into the bush with but it sure is nice to have when your caught short. They are thin but that also keeps them light, there will always be a trade-off but again if you keep in mind what these are really good for the trade-off is of no concern.

I've had two of these for over two years and in that time I have had quite a few opportunities to use them in various applications. This is not a log splitter, it's a hatchet. If you need to trim branches or make kindling, it's a perfect fit. The rubber handle is nice to hold and although it gets slippery in the cold it's still easy to keep a grip on, no different than a high end hatchet. There's not really any problems keeping an edge on them. The steel isn't the highest quality; you won't get that for $15.00 but it isn't the worst I've had to deal with either.

Just keep in mind what these are and compare them to other items in their class, not log splitters or long handles axes. Trust me, if you carry a pack and want to keep it light while still having something you...

markspark: I purchased this for its size and price. I read the reviews about being dull edged, but mine in 2015 was sharp and did not need to be sharpened. I really don't use it much, but I carry it to help blaze and maintain narrow trails in the woods. It seems to be a ideal survival axe if you need small and light weight for hiking or hunting. If you are a camper, then you will want a larger, heavier ax to more easily harvest camp fire wood. If you are back packer, then this is a good buy. There are many good hatchets on the market. This was simply my choice for low cost and low weight. Study fat rubberized hand grip and a heavy canvas sheath to prevent accidental injuries from the sharp edge.

Amazon Customer: I bought this hatchet to take with me on short camps and hikes, and it hasn't let me down yet. The sheath is poor quality and comes apart fairly easly, but have fixed that with some super glue around the seams. Blade comes a lil dull, but sharpened up nice after running it through a sharpener a few times. Hatchet is short and light weight, comfortable to wear around waist line. Good for chopping small to medium size wood, and can take the hits, even if you have to hit it from behind to split tougher pieces of wood.

Blake G.: This hatchet is super small and lightweight, so be warned. If you don't want to lug around a heavy hatchet while backpacking, this is a huge plus. However, don't expect to be splitting big oak logs with this thing. It will split kindling and chop small branches, and that's about it. If that's what you are looking for, this works great. It is actually made pretty well for what it is. Makes a good gift for a Boy Scout, by the way.

The sheath fell apart on the first day of use due to terrible design. The hatchet blade rests against the threads that hold the two halves together, cutting them instantly.

So toss the sheath, and keep the hatchet for light work.

Great gadgets & gear!: The hatchet is 10" long 5 of which is blade, pretty well balanced. It weights .07 lbs & it's handle is beefy feeling and pretty sure its full tang. I think it's made of composite material, not too plasticy feeling but not rubber either, it says skid proof handle, but mine skid so paracord should take care of that. It went through chopping small branches real easy but does take a few wackes due to it's small size. Will be great addition to hiking pack. Mine was not so sharp, so it will visit my knife sharpener. Happy with the stainless steel blade. The little storage pouch was a nice feature as well. It's a really nice quality compact axe at a very good price. Treated well, should last a while. Great budget camping/hiking purchase.
