Get your wire cutting job done quickly and conveniently with the Cal Hawk Tools CPLWC8 7.5" Steel Wire Cutter.Liz T. & Chris L.Liz T. & Chris L.: Hands down the best tool I have to cut thick gauge steel wire, now. Cutting 16 gauge steel wire is a breeze. I don't think I'd need to go any heavier duty, I could cut wire all day with these! The tapered tips allow for precise cutting, close to the inside of the steel mesh for close to flush cuts.

Gregg: This Thing cuts great. Leaves a very flat end. No bulging at the end of your cable after the cut. Problem... the spring design they used to help control the jaws can easily come loose at the connection points. Impossible to reconnect the coil/spring ends back onto the little nubs. Be careful not to extend this too far open if you want to avoid this issue.

Heather Y: I needed some heavy duty cutters for all of my faux floral arranging. These make cutting a breeze. My only complaint is some of the really thick stems barely fit through the open mouth. So I had to wiggle some of the thicker ones in so that I could cut them. Still worth it though and to be honest they might be adjustable, so I’ll need to learn more about them!

R. Higgins: I haven't used more expensive cutters to make a comparison. These cutters crimped the snipped ends of my 4mm bike gear cable housing quite a bit, so I suspect they probably aren't the ideal cutter for this purpose. I certainly wouldn't recommend going with them if you had to do this work frequently. Cable crimping was enough of an annoyance that I might have opted to use a dremel with a fine cutting wheel instead if I knew how things would go.
I further tried to cut the housing with the cable inside. I thought that method would prevent the outer cable from crimping inwards, but the inner cable would still get pinched down and stuck at the end. So after making my cuts, I used a small pick to ream out the opening, and the shifter cable was then able to slip through easily. For fixing up the occasional kids bike at home, I think these cheap cutters and a small pick/nail can get the job done. If you have a dremel with a fine cutting wheel, that should probably work in a pinch as well.
I'm assuming these cheap cutters will dull/rust quicker than more expensive cutters. I'd recommend wiping a little bit of oil on these, and storing them indoors in a dry location to keep...

hitpure: I was having trouble cutting braided galvanized steel wire using my available tools, include heavy duty wire cutters, standard sheet metal cutters, and an oscilatting multi-tool.
This tool worked wonderfully. Multiple cuts and still going strong.
The wire I was cutting was 14-gauge.
