mls Wisconsin: My original Hanon was not spiral bound but after years and years of use does stay open. The spiral binding makes the book a little flimsy but yet it does stay open. Gave it as a gift to adult wanting to learn how to use 2 hands on piano! I go back to my original Hanon all the time especially now after elbow surgery to loosen up fingers and wrists.
