Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Volume 1 - Start the Epic Adventure!

Ryan - UK: Having seen the original show from back in the day, the key thing to know going into this is that it takes the characters and largely stays true to them, but changing the story.

Not all characters have the same personalities as their versions from the show, but it’s interesting to see new takes on them all the same.

This includes twists that really set it apart and promise good stories to come.

For fans of the original, this is a fun “what if…” kind of story that I enjoyed.

Lance Morgan: Brilliant reimagining of Buffy from the beginning, set in the age of smart phones and social media. The author is excellent and has the characters and dialogue down perfectly. I’m loving it! The events unfold in new ways and the characters develop differently. If you’re a Buffy fan, you’re going to LOVE this! Trades collect 4 issues each and there are 5 so far as this series is ongoing.

Eva R: Fan desde hace casi 20 años de la serie, solo este año he descubierto la galaxia de comics que existen tanto de Buffy como de Angel o Spike (Fray sí que lo conocía). Tenía curiosidad por el reboot y la verdad es que me ha decepcionado un poco. Cuesta adaptarse al cambio de formato y los pocos comics que he leído eran más "novela gráfica", con más historia, por lo que esto se me queda un poco corto. No me gusta tampoco los cambios que han hecho en los personajes y lo que han mantenido igual no tiene mucho sentido (cf. Anya)...no sé, no creo que me lea los siguientes. Sí intentaré leer Fray, After the Fall de Angel y la octava temporada de Buffy, a ver si son mejores...

Sophia: As a huge longtime fan of Buffy, I found this to be a refreshing and intriguing modern take. The only slight issue I had was that it felt more safe and less apocalyptic and conflict-heavy than Buffy the tv series or Buffy season 8 tended to be. This is not a major issue, and I’m sure (and hopeful) that there will be more apocalyptic and dangerous, hold-your-breath moments in future books. Overall, this is a great read and definite must-read for all Buffy fans. I look forward to reading more.

Silver_star08: Awesome revamp of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In volume 1 we meet Buffy, she's like the girl we all love but with more grit & modern technology.

When she saves Willow & Zander, aka the Scoobies, they become fast friends. Giles, her watcher/the school librarian, gets onto to her about letting her secret out.

Spike & Drusilla, Anya & others make appearances. All in all a great redo. It's just odd to see Buffy with a cell phone & not a beeper. ;)

Harry Cutler-Smith: I purchased this while my other half and I were halfway through our Buffy marathon. I knew of the earlier Buffy comics, but this really appealed to me since it seemed to resemble the TV series, which it does - in ways. There are major differences in the storyline, it does not start off the same as the show, but all your favorite characters are there and level of detail in the drawing is amazing. Buffy actually looks like Sarah Michelle Gellar and the same goes for the other characters. The best way to sum this comic up, is to imagine it's set in a different dimension, everyone is same but the storyline isn't, so in a way it's like rewatching the series you enjoy but it's something entirely new. Bring on Vol 2!

L. Johnson: I was honestly very skeptical. I’m a huge Buffy fan, with a very large collection of items, including every original story book from the old show. I loved them all. Maybe that’s why I enjoyed this incarnation.

It’s a reboot. It’s buffy, in high school in 2019. She has an iPhone, Willow’s out already, and Xander runs a blog talking about his depression. Spike and drusilla have reversed roles, Anya has a bit of a different role. We meet characters with different personalities, that fit with the current time and social structures they would encounter in high school.

The story is the same. It’s about the evils of high school and being a teenager. Demons and vampires run amok, all while Cordy is running for prom queen. It still tells the story we all love, but it applies to a new generation.

Give it a chance. It’s not the Buffy we’ve loved for two decades. But it’s one we can love for years to come.

The artwork is great. The characters are flawed, which, lets be honest, is one of the reasons we loved them from the start.
