TinySquid: 1/12/2023 update: I've received a replacement waffle maker from Amazon and have been using it for several weeks without issue. Now that I have one which works, I can honestly say this waffle maker is fantastic. Like, it's a level of fantastic that transforms waffle batter recipes and I didn't even know that was possible for a waffle maker.

This waffle maker seems like it could be really great: overall construction is good, easy to clean, the nonstick coating works well, controls are simple to use... However, the unit I received only made two waffles before it quit working and it was all the more disappointing because those two waffles were excellent.

The waffle maker pre-heated, made one pair of waffles, then stopped heating. The second cook cycle was only able to partially cook the next set of waffles with the residual heat from the first cook cycle. I cleaned the unit up, unplugged it, and moved on to other things for a few days. I plugged the unit in this morning to make waffles and, while it turned on and beeped, it would not preheat and cook cycles also produced no heat.

We hesitated to buy it because of the price, but my husband and I have a weekly waffle brunch, and this thing is wonderful. We could choose our setting and then just trust the machine to make it perfectly and alert us when it's done. My last waffle maker didn't have a timer, so I had to set my own timer and then was often either too early or too late, depending on how long the iron stayed open in between waffles. It was a guessing game. No guesswork here. We love it. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, every time.

Andrew Baird: So this is a very expensive waffle iron, I fully admit that. But it is incredibly easy and a joy to use. I have had several waffle irons in the past from very cheap ($25) to moderate ($65) and to be honest they were such a pain to clean that I used them maybe 2 or 3 times each and then they just sat in my cupboard while I made pancakes. In the short time I have had then I would say I make waffles 1-2x a month (usually make 12 or so per batch so end up freezing some otherwise would use it more). I even bring it with me when I visit family so I can make them fresh waffles. it is still a waffle iron so its not the easiest thing to clean but so much easier than any other waffle iron I have ever owned. So I get that the price tag is very high, but I have already got more use out of this in a few short months than I did with years of my cheaper irons combined.

Amazon Customer: This waffle maker is so easy to use and makes excellent waffles! On my first attempt the waffles stuck and I was so disappointed but every one I have since made after that came out perfect. You don’t use any cooking spray so I think the first waffles you make serve to “season” the plates. The waffles are the perfect thickness and I love that you don’t need to guess when they are ready. You just set it to the desired waffle type (Belgium, classic, etc.) and darkness and it lets you know when they are ready. The channel around the waffles also means there’s no mess to cleanup off your counter it you overfill it. Would highly recommend this!

SeekingTraveler: Update 11/21/2022: been using our Breville BWM620XL waffle iron for two years now. No problems, still making amazing waffles. Great product.

I am entirely happy with my new Breville BWM620XL waffle iron. I have had it only for a short time. I will update this review if I learn anything new that is important.

I have an old waffle iron with removable plates; but this Breville waffle iron makes waffles that are much, much better. I don't know why. So far, the computer-controlled cooking time seems to be perfect. The waffles are exactly and equally cooked from edge to center to edge.

You can download a copy of the user's manual from the Breville website (breville dot com). I read this manual before buying the waffle iron. The manual contains a few waffle recipes. I also found some helpful videos on YouTube showing folks using this waffle iron.

The waffle iron has numerous settings:
- With the left dial, one may select: (1) Belgian; (2) Classic; (3) Chocolate; (4) Buttermilk; or (5) Custom.
- With the right dial, one select 1 of 12 settings from Light to Dark.

DavidL: When I opened the box and saw this waffle maker, my first impression was I thought that it is built like a tank. Massive, heavy, strong. So different than the sub-$100 models. Little plastic, lots of stainless steel. Opening the lid for the first time, it felt heavy. Built to last. It is very thoughtfully designed. Great engineering. A computer inside knows and adjusts the parameters of time and temperature depending on the settings and even knows when the lid is open.
Breville is an amazing company that would never skimp on quality. As they say,"You get what you pay for". Quite true in this case. My first waffles came out perfect. Absolutely non stick. I just had to pull up one corner of the waffle and the whole thing easily came out in one piece. Very easy to clean. Do be careful with the non-stick coating.
If it's in your budget, get this one.

Tim: This does a really nice job, and cooks evenly. The non-stick is ok - it takes a little effort to remove if you don't pre-spray first. My main "complaint" to keep this from being five stars is when the batter overflows, it has a "moat" to catch it, but it's not the easiest to clean as the tray does not come out. So all you can do is wipe it out, you can't really put it in the sink as the main components would be exposed to the water. There are other designs out there that do allow you to remove the tray to wash, and that would be nice. But for what it's supposed to do, it does a nice job and has multiple settings that are helpful.
