Ned: I have owned this coffee pot 4 over 2 years and it makes great coffee, a filtered can be added for the water, is it easy to clean, programable ....BUT there is one major issue. The coffee pot is made of such thin glass so it is easily breakable. I have gone through a couple carafes already.
Not sure I would purchase this maker again.

Schnucky Lumps: First off: the flavour of coffee is amazing from this maker and just as good as a pour-over. The mouth-feel of the coffee is completely different using the gold toned filter: smooth and rich.
One slight negative is that the gold tone filter makes a mess in the sink after cleaning. After shaking the used grounds into the compost, there is still a lot of residue that ends up in the sink after washing out.
Also the lid of the pot is a little delicate; it comes off accidentally sometimes and needs to be snapped back in.
One design oversight: the led clock display is not backlit which makes it impossible to read if you're looking down on it, i.e. most of the time.

Altoid: I got this to replace one of the classic 80s Brauns that finally burned itself out, and after a little detour with a similar Cuisinart that I took back (so-so coffee at best, and wrong color) I went online and got this. It does almost everything well or very well. Most important for me is that it's consistent and produces the taste I like and that I'm used to.
Some reviews downrate it because it doesn't have a window that lets you see the water level from outside. Instead there's an inside scale that isn't ideal but is usable if you take your time. Others aren't happy with the opening for adding water. Again not ideal, but I discovered you can actually hook the pouring lip of the carafe on the edge and rest it there while you pour and you won't have any spilling. Reviewers who are unhappy that the opening is high are going to have trouble with almost any coffee maker these days, imho, because the current style is tall and rectangular (and way too bulky, but what can you do). A low counter or table is probably the best bet there. I agree with reviewers who point out that the LCD clock display is a little hard to read. (OTOH the Cuisinart's was a piercing blue and bright...

Lee: This makes excellent coffee! We find the flavor to be better than our beloved grind and brew machine. Water temperature is the primary factor in the quality of coffee flavor. Now, all these coffee brewers have to boil the water to work, but there must be something to the design of this machine that gets the water to the grinds hotter than our grind & brew.
This is a little bigger than a typical brewer, but it is shorter than our grind & brew. It also does 12 cups, so it should be bigger.
I am 5' 9 1/3", my wife a few inches shorter, both seniors. Neither of us has any trouble filling the machine or reading the water level markings.
We definitely prefer glass carafes. We like being able to see how much liquid is in the carafe. This carafe is also marked for each cup, not every 2 cups like some others. The glass and the markings allow us to use it to add water to the water reservoir easily. It pours well and is easy to clean. In well over a month of daily use we have had no problems with it.
The brewer itself and the filter are easier to clean than our other coffee makers.
I found the settings to be easy and relatively intuitive. While the 12 cup capacity will...

D Rogers: If you want all the latest features with many claims of extraordinary capabilities (that we almost never use) than this may not satisfiy the desire for all the latest greatest (been there done that and been frustrated each time, like the cleaning cycle has to have flush cycle at just right time or you have to start the whole cleaning cycle all over again)
This very well made coffee maker has all the nice features (Auto on/off, set to brew, # of cups, clean cycle, that's very easy) yet is simple to use and makes the very best coffee! (based on my love of a good cup of just plain good coffee and guest feedback) Comes with reusable metal funnel type filter or can use paper
(had before but always used paper filter and now I use this metal reuseable and like it a lot, even though there is fine sediment in the bottom of the pot)
It is also a clean, sleek, sophisticated design, that if very practical, yet looks really good on the counter or coffee station. I would definitely buy it again

bobbysgirl: I am not a coffee snob but my motto is "life is too short for bad coffee". Basically I don't care about taking out a second mortgage and having 100 gadgets to make a cup of coffee. I want my coffee rich, dark, strong and hot!!! I just replaced a much more expensive coffeemaker with this Braun coffeemaker. My last one only made 40 ounces/8 cups so my husband and I would had a coffee shortage every morning. The Braun makes 60 ounces/12 cups. First of all, I don't have to use as much coffee grounds. I use Seattles Best 5, and would use one scoop for every cup of water. with the Braun I used 9 scoops for the 12 cups of water and the coffee was perfect. The Braun makes very strong coffee. The coffee is good and hot. The coffee pot is simple to use and looks very nice on the counter!! The carafe does not dribble. It has a function if you're making 1-4 cups and it has a preset if you get up at the same time every morning and want your coffee waiting for you. I noticed hardly any steam came up the top as it was brewing, which made me and the bottom of my cabinets happy. I don't know where the steam went but it's a great design. It does not have a water level indicator so you will have to...
