Mike Cross: If you want to read top flight sci-fi covering aliens, alien worlds, political intrigue, personal intrigue and a romping good adventure - this entire series is for you.

OMG this book and series are so good. As well the TV version. Compelling universe/world building, a trait I first noticed getting praised in Lord of the Rings. Characters richly developed. Full of insights on human nature, science, politics and many other areas. Complex political and personal tensions. Effective sketches of mind-blowingly advanced aliens. Cool science-y and even a generally academic vibe in various fields, from biology to art-history.
As a basically minor side-note (*spoiler*?): The aversive treatment of hive-minds as an option for humans, in this book, may contrast with the (for me at least) heart-breaking regret at the end of Ender's Game, when the Hive-Queen bemoans in contrition, "never did we dream that thought could arise from the lonely animals who cannot dream each other's dreams".

I was pleasantly surprised with this series.
Definitely must read.
It's hard to imagine this final installment being any more satisfying. The whole epic story arc comes full circle in the most gratifying of ways, with a return to the Roci and the original crew confronting overwhelming odds in a bid to unite humanity and save it from the unknown. And, of course, from ourselves. Along with extra servings of the usual nostalgia and sentimentality (the series has always bordered on the mawkish) and the slow burn buildup of tension, there's also some mind melting astrophysics and xenobiology based hard sci-fi as many of the mysteries surrounding both the protomolecule civilization and the enigmatic gate entities are revealed. One of the surprise highlights for me was the Colonel Tanaka POV, which shares the stage on equal terms with the rest. She's a ruthless, remorseless and relentless hunter. Just the type of vindictive, cold blooded character you absolutely love to hate. The ending is monumentally epic, with an ironic little twist that is just perfect, and which for some reason reminded me of the BSG television series finale. The Expanse has been an...

Bryan Desmond:
When you read something over so long a period of time—investing hours and years into one story, one set of characters—the ending is always a bittersweet thing. Bitter, because it's over; you shall not return again. Sweet, because all good things must come to an end. And The Expanse is a very, very good thing.
Closing Leviathan Falls, I am left with a strange feeling of malaise, almost. Like something isn't quite right. Because though this is the final book in the series, and the capstone to a long journey among the stars, it didn't really feel like an ending. Or, it did, but it also didn't. Certainly, the plot threads that have been woven for the last nine books were brought to a satisfying and poignant conclusion. That is true. But there was a part of me that book down the book and thought, "It's over? We're really done?" But the thing is, I'm not sure it could be otherwise.
James S.A. Corey (Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham) have, in The Expanse, written a story about humans. Yes, it's a story in which people sail the stars; in which alien gates to other planets open; in which an extraterrestrial molecule sailed millions of light years through...
