BLACK+DECKER CM2040 40V Lithium 20-Inch 3-in-1 Cordless Lawn Mower

Jim H.: when it worked, it worked well but just did not last - our small front lawn was cut 1/week for 3 season. Unfortunately, the mower would not " fire up " as the beginning of the fourth season.

I am really disappointed as I spent extra for 2 batteries and also purchased the compatible leaf blower and edge trimmer.

So much for Black and Decker products.

Joe Blow: Only used once so far - but - found it to be very easy. I had taken out big trees and roots, graded and seeded. Mowed after 6 weeks of growth. Worked like a dream. Easy to maneuver - but did not get the battery time that others brag about. Took 3 batteries to do my small front and rear lawn. Fortunately that was not a problem - but - just sayin. I had lots of rocks in my soil. Did my best to remove them but there still were a few scattered. Was not a problem with this mower. Just went right over them and cut the grass efficiently. Couldn't help but think bout what our grandparents woulda thought in the 50's 60's about using an all plastic lawnmower . . . . lol

UPDATE:
After 3rd use . . . it died. Had to take a ferry and drive 40 mi into busy industrial Seattle to drop off at the nearest svc center. (the first indication they are not consumer-friendly) Called to check on 3 wks later - was told they were awaiting a part. This is their business - what they do day in and day out . . . and it takes 3 wks to get a part? I begged them to UPS it back to me when finished. When I got it back - I reassembled the handle and found the bail handle...

Brad MillsBrad Mills: The media could not be loaded.  I spent about 4 hours researching the best electric lawn mowers for 2017. I compared this mower to all other brands and B&D models. I found that this one was the best value for the money, with the highest reviews.

I think I made a great choice in the end, here's my experience with it:

This thing is great. Best electric lawnmower I've had. The 20" blade does the job like a normal mower and the 2 batteries let you get the entire yard.

It makes easy work of big weeks and overgrowth ... I have a tendency to let my grass grow too much, and this mower makes light work of grass thats taller than the wheels of the mower.

Sturdy, easy to push, great purchase.

The 2 batteries last about 20-30 mins each, and there's a storage compartment in the mower for easy swapping.

You would never notice this wasn't a gas powered mower.

rnaple: As soon as I received this. I brought it out to my backyard. Pushed it back and forth across, up, down, and around the hill. Yes! I was right! Change thinking on hills. Going light is the answer.
I own one of the best commercial self propelled mowers there is. The self propulsion does not degrade. Steel deck, 6 hp. It weighs 110 pounds. It's tough to use on my hill. The mower always wants to roll or slide downhill. I can look straight over at my backyard neighbors second story, even with my ground floor. All the decline in elevation is in my yard. That's in 50'. Even going straight up hill. I have to use more strength with the commercial self propelled to keep it straight, than I have to with the B&D. B&D's website lists this mower at 43 pounds.
Now if it's an extreme short uphill climb. Like a bank of some kind. Where you just push it up. Then let it come back down. I think the self propelled might be better. It's just too much. But on most hills like my yard. Nobody mows up and down anyways. They mow back and forth. Dropping down the hill with each run. Even with my hill. Pushing this uphill seems easier to me than controlling my self propelled...

Amazon Customer: The mower cuts grass well. It cannot mulch leaves. The batteries have a short life. One battery does not work. The package was damaged in shipment.

Samuel Plett: I'm quite pleased by this mower. I have a 60x130ft yard with and it takes me 1.5 batteries to get the job done so I still have some extra battery power. It's easy to operate and very light and very quiet - even quieter than my black and decker 18V weed wacker. It's a little bit strange that the motor speed goes up and down based on how hard it has to work but once you get used to it it's fine. Another negative is that it's very easy for kids to start it so be sure to always remove the key or the battery for safety purposes.

Didn't give it 5/5 because in a perfect world it could have some more power and the bagger could be slightly larger but overall I'm very happy with it.

Amazon Customer: THIS IS NOW 2020 and battery not sure of - Mulching this year AWESOME, no lifting heavy grass bag. Lawn looks beautiful with mulching. Will check how long lifetime of Lithium Battery should last. This is 4th year. THANK YOU BLACK & DECKER for this model.
We waited a year to purchase a Lithium 40v Cordless lawnmower - never should have waited that long. NO SMELL - no smoke - cuts beautifully - quiet and light weight. Yes it's expensive but worth it. Adjusted grass cutting height easily - grass catcher bag detaches easily to empty. Stores spare battery on board while using the main one. Recharge is very fast if needed.

Spiff: This is one great mower. I've been gas free for my entire home ownership life, but have been tethered by the cord, until now. My new lawn is too long for an extension cord to reach all the way to the end of the lot. That, and it is really a pain sometimes having to move the cord and manage the cord whilst cutting grass.

This mower is wonderful. It has a powerful enough motor to cut through thick grass, though is quiet and lightweight. By default, it is also easy to push. I have found that I can get about 30 minutes run time on this mower with one battery. This allows me to do the front lawn, then I can do the back lawn with the second battery. Awesome! Does a great job in bagging as well.

The only complaint I would have, which is academic at this point, is that a fully discharged battery takes 2 hours to charge with the supplied charger. That's pretty slow, if I want to keep cycling the batteries in and out for larger jobs, using multiple tools. I'm not there yet, but I'd like to be, some day.
