C.R.: I love how it quickly hardboiled eggs. The first time I used it, I followed instructions by filling up the cup to the line according to how many eggs I was using (3). Unfortunately, it was not enough water. When they were done, there were brown spots on the steel heating element. Luckily, I was able to get them off with a brillo pad and a little bit of water. I did not immerse it with water. I just kept wiping it with damp paper towels. There are some white spots on there still but I can live with that. I just have to remember to add a little extra water the next time. Otherwise, the eggs came out perfectly and it was so easy to use! I'll never hardboil eggs using a pot on the stove again! Two thumbs up and five straight stars!!!!

Amazon Customer: Would have given 5 stars if it had auto switch off function (though they mention it has!!!!!)...! Else its awesome..! gets the work done.. perfectly boiled eggs, easy to peel. its almost 3 weeks now since i bought it and almost daily at least i am having eggs just because of this! before that i was super lazy.
One more thing it leaves black marks on the bottom tray as the water evaporates..

Charles McGee: The best way to cook eggs exactly the same way, every single time. Before this puppy, my medium cooked eggs were too inconsistent. Either too cooked (hard boiled) or not cooked enough and fall apart when peeling the shell. Now it feels like I get my full money out of every egg and each egg turns out the same time after time as long as I buy the same sized eggs. It's not hard to clean up either, but you learn to live with a little water deposits on the base. I use a wire brush to clear that up, but it never really goes away. I've used the veggie tray to cook vegetables and they've turned out mostly overcooked. Need to do more experiments on the exact amount of water to use. Some other egg cookers feature omelette trays, but I'm not sure I would use it as cleanup of egg trays is not my favourite job. Shelling eggs is much easier than cleaning afterwards.
Since this uses so much less water than I would use to boil eggs, it saves a lot of energy. Some people complained that there is no on/off switch. That's correct, but I don't think it needs one. I always unplug it and bring it over to the sink to rinse anyway. It makes a convenient tray to bring the eggs over to rinse with...

M Ko: My friend has been telling me about this egg genie for a few years. I used to think I really don't need this gadget as I could boil egg! Little did I know I have been missing out all these years! No more overcooked or too runny eggs! It's perfect every single time. I see some people complains about the needle to be too big. I think they are perfectly fine. I use it to poke the shell and have no problem with it. I do think they should use a color needle or some sort of color around the needle to warn people about it. There are a few times I forgot about it and have my thumb rests on it. It's quite painful!! But overall, I think it's a great addition to my kitchen gadget!!

Julie Grant: This works as advertised, but there are a couple of things I don't love about it. First of all, I need the little measuring cup with me every time I use it or else risk not putting the right amount of water into the machine. Once plugged in, it goes until the water is all gone and then an alarm sounds. I would prefer it had a timer instead so that I wouldn't need the measuring cup. Secondly, the shape of the poacher is weird and I get thick, triangular shaped poached eggs. I don't really like that!
All that being said, if I follow the water guidelines, I get my eggs cooked like I want them and I find it pretty easy to clean.

Eric: Much like the Flexible Flyer Snowball Maker, colors may vary I recently purchased and reviewed, people see this on my counter and ask "Really????". However, the Egg Genie is easily one of the best purchases for the price that I've ever made.
I think I paid around $17 for mine but $20 isn't outlandish. The unit fits up to 7 eggs and is so easy my 9 year old daughter uses it to make snacks when she gets out of school. The only downside is that it doesn't automatically turn off.
The instructions are very easy. Take the included cup and fill it up to the mark for the number of eggs being cooked (1-7) and pour it in the metal base. Then place the plastic tray on top and use the needle attached to poke a hole on the top of each egg so steam can escape safely and place the egg in the tray. Plug in and wait 10-15 minutes for the unit to beep. Unplug and let sit for about a minute or two and then dump the eggs into a tray of ice water (last step is optional but will prevent greening of the yolk).
Making hard-boiled eggs is easy but it requires dishes and more time than it would with the egg genie. This easter we went to Costco and picked up 2 18packs of...

Beach Girl: Overall, I am very pleased with this product. My water supply is a community well and we have high iron and manganese mineral content (well within safety regulations, but I'm not worried about anemia while I live here). I've been making hard cooked eggs for years, but since moving here, the eggs I make using the traditional stovetop method (even using filtered water) have mixed results and peeling the eggs is terrible -- the whites stick to the shell and sometimes the yolk is all that is salvageable. Hence my search for an alternative way of making hard cooked eggs.
I've been using the EggGenie for several months now and I'm very pleased with the quality and consistency of the hard cooked eggs. They are cooked properly and almost pop out of the shell, the top two criteria I was looking for. I can make presentable deviled eggs again!
For store-bought white shelled eggs, the instructions are spot-on. During the spring/summer, I buy homegrown eggs from a local farmer and the shells and inner membranes are a bit thicker. I've made some adjustments for the differences that work well for me. My tips for cooking this type of egg are: 1) let the eggs "age" in the...
