Eric: I bought different Benq model that started to overheat constantly within the first 5 weeks. Since I was refunded, I gave Benq a chance and bought the HT 2050. Picture quality was excellent except there seemed to be more motion blur than the previous model. Just after a year, the bulb exploded inside the projector! Benq was gracious enough to pay for shipping, cleaned the unit and replaced the bulb just outside the warranty. They confirmed that it wasn't because of poor maintenance (dust, etc.) when asked. This process took around 1.5 to 2 weeks so I was stuck with my HDTV for the duration. Just over a year later, the bulb exploded again! This time, Benq was attempting to blame my environment without even seeing the projector. The tech was open-minded enough to work with me in the end and offered me a swap for a different model after a long discussion (refurbished). Hopefully the motion blur will be reduced as well with this. I have shipped out my projector and am awaiting the replacement, having to pull out the HDTV again for however long it will take. Not impressed at all, thus far. At least there is some effort to compensate.

Don Holmes: The 1st had to be replaced. No return issues. Hats off to seller and amazon. Looked like someone forgot a sticker that was covering lens internally. So 2nd projector has great colour in 2 or 3d. No rainbow noticed, but I'm not a pro. Great presets for colours. Surprisingly good on board sound though I don't need or use it. ( stereo sound.) decent input array as in description. I use it ceiling mounted in front of screen about 10 feet from screen. I use a drop down screen 100 inch because my plasma tv is mounted to the wall and screen comes down in front of tv when I want big screen action. I can see how it works best with a fixed screen or painted wall. No projector fault. Just the way it is. For me it's okay. You will notice anomalies without solid screen especially in panning high speed cinematic shots. VERY QUIET! Seriously. Great deal for the money. It does give best pic in low light. I use simple drapes drawn over window when using before full dark. Works plenty well. No problems having LED rope light lit for ambient mood and safety. Mine is Ina purpose built home theatre appx 14 x 14 feet with two rows of seats ( one elevated 7 inches) and surround sound...

David M.David M.: About a year ago I started researching modestly priced projectors with the idea that having one in my living room would be a cool thing for movie watching. The whole thing seemed to be rather involved and impractical so I had given up on the idea until recently when a family member mentioned the need for a projector to use for a few upcoming presentations. Through my previous research I felt that the HT2050 from Benq was about the best overall projector in this price range I decided to take the plunge.

I bought the projector as well as a Silver Ticket 120 inch indoor outdoor portable screen from Amazon. I found out right away that setting up the projector and screen was very easy and it only took a few minutes to have it up and running with a source from a computer or hdmi. The picture quality is astonishingly good!

After having it set up in a few different locations I decided to give it a try in my living room. With the projector about 12ft away from the screen it produces an image that fills the entire 120 inch screen. Yesterday evening my wife and I decided to have a movie night and the experience was much much different than what we...

Mr Burns: First projector. I mounted it on my ceiling and have a pull-down 100in screen that drops over my Panasonic Plasma. The family is really enjoying the experience. I finally see the glory of 3d as we had a 3d festival on the weekend with Avatar, Mad Max, I Robot, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. The set up was dead simple, and the modest lens shift is perfect for aligning the image based on 16:9 or 2.39 format. The viewing area is my south exposure living room with full patio doors, so there is ambient light which the projector handles well.

While I enjoy a full 7.1 surround sound environment, I have a Roku stick plugged in the HT2050 USB and find the sound from the projector very good for watching Youtube or podcasts. Also, I have turned my Xbox 360 on for the first time in 2 years and the projector has no discernible lag and the immersive of spending 12 straight hours with Cortana and Master Chief completing Halo 4 was great.

The image quality, the ease of setup, the aesthetic look of the packaging, the low noise, the bright picture with good contrast makes this a real value for the price. combine it with a nice screen and you will have a great...

NMVNMV: I'm not exaggerating when I say that this might be my favorite home technology purchase I've ever made.

I live in a 1BR downtown condo and was tired of the typical 50" TV mounted on a wall arrangement. I love the look and minimalism of projectors and decided to research which one to buy. I spent weeks reading reviews and looking at different brands and ended up going with the HT2050. It's been about 7 months of daily use since I purchased and I could not be happier.

My setup:
Wall: In sticking with a minimalist theme I did not want to buy a screen. And if you have a large, clean, well painted white wall you likely will not need one either
Mount: I bought the Vantage Point Universal Mount and hung it up over my couch.  Vantage Point CGUPM12-S Universal Front Projector Mount - Silver . You need to get the positioning just right but it's easy to install overall with 2 people
Size: My screen size is about 120" which can be jaw dropping to see visually particularly in a smaller living environment
Outputs: I bought a multi-output HDMI adapter which I keep on the floor under my couch and just run up a single HDMI cord...

Marc-andre Legault: Yesterday, I replaced my Optoma HD26 for this projector because of lens shift available on this unit and low latency for gaming from computer. My projector is mounted 10" under the ceiling to avoid a beam. I wanted the image to touch the ceiling but the best I could get was a picture that starts 10" from ceilling (with max lens shift). Note that the BenQ 2050 doesn't allow the image to be shifted below center lens.

Image Quality:
Pros:
Image is bright. Colors looks saturated. Movies looks nice.
Cons:
I can't make focus for the whole picture as I was able with the Optoma. If left side is focused, the right side is blured. (The projector is installed perfectly at 90degree angle to wall). You will notice that only on computer text/graphics. Not on movies. Icons on windows desktop at left of screen are crisp, and the time in windows taskbar (bottom right) is blurred. You can read it, but its annoying.
With the BenQ, I saw the "rainbow effect" for the first time. White lines on black background clearly shows Blue/Red/Green lines when moving eyes around the screen.
With my previous projector, each pixel seemed individual(single color), but with...

Rick G.Rick G.: I was in the market for my first Home Theatre projector, and and I wanted to find a decent budget projector with the best picture quality possible and high definition resolution. I quickly became overwhelmed with the plethora of choices out there in my price range, but with some digging through home theatre forums and sites I was able to narrow it down to a few candidates. A few interesting units were 3-chip LCD and others were singe-chip DLP. There were advantages and disadvantages to each technology, but with some research I decided based on the features that I found important, such as low fan noise, high brightness, and cinematic picture quality and durability. The thing that swung me towards ultimately choosing DLP is there chance of the LCD chips turning yellow or fogging over time and chips falling out of alignment. Conversely, DLP seemed to have the best overall longevity from what I could gather from user reports, so I chose DLP.

According to my online research, the Benq HT1080 seemed to have consistently high satisfaction rates, but I found its replacement model, the HT2050 on sale on Amazon, and it was just a tad more than my budget, but not...
