Aqueon MiniBow LED Aquarium Kit: Perfect Starter Tank for Small Fish

JoeyJoey: I wanted a small aquarium for my desk and this fit the bill. Perfect size, and very quiet. I will be adding a betta to the tank once it has cycled. The price was good as well less expensive than if purchased in my local pet store. The tank and everything you see was purchased on Amazon with the exception of the mini heater ( it’s behind the red plant) , I was looking for the aqueon 5w mini heater which I found in my local pet store. I will say, the LED light does give off a bit of heat, just an FYI.

tony spinkstony spinks: Was happy with the initial product. The issue is that with a hood, light, filter pump and power head it gets hotter than ambient temps. Is 79 deg. in my house (summer) with the a/c on, but the tank will get to 85 degrees. I realized the power supply that plugs into the wall is 12 volts. That means it could power a computer fan. Enter the hole saw! I had a spare 3 wire 2500 rpm 92mm fan from an old pc case, so I removed it and clipped off the plug. Had to cut into the wiring of the LED light so you would void any warranty doing this modification. Split the power in two directions and added two on/off buttons to the back of the hood. Now I have a button that will turn on the fan, blowing across the water and cooling the tank too several degrees below room temp and another button to turn on the light independent of the fan. I am ordering another 1800 rpm slim fan to decrease the cooling now because it's too much. Oh, I am using this tank for salt water hermit crab, snails and one small fish.

BCzzz: I wanted to get a betta for a pet. After some research, I got this as a starter kit. I've had it for about two months and here are my thoughts. First of all, its' a kit. With the tank, you get a filter, lighting, a packet of water de-chlorinator, and a packet of fish food. This is standard with most kits, but for me, the tank is the most important thing.

The tank is easy to assemble, and the parts (base, lid, and tank) integrate well. Once things were running, I plopped Mo into the tank, and he thrived. There was no need to cycle the tank, but I did use Safe Start (liquid bacteria) to help initialize the water. These are the +s, 0s, and -s I noted.

(+) The tank is well constructed, and the parts are well integrated. It would have been nice just to get the tank by itself. It may be a bit small for a betta, but Mo seems to like it. The lid is domed shape and has a feeding hole at the front. Very convenient. It also has an opening in the back to accommodate your electrical cords and tubing.

(0) The filter is OK. It is easy to use and kept the water parameters (pH, Nitrite/Nitrate, Ammonia) stable. It takes up more space in the small tank than you would like....
