J Curtis Johnston: Purchased this 2 yrs ago to be able to run my computer setup with 2 monitors during a power outage. It is a lead acid battery (not lithium) so very heavy. My system runs at an average of 120 w. So, I figured this unit should be able to keep my system alive for at least 15 min which it did after the 1st power outage about 18 months ago. I wasn't at my computer so the UPS drained to nothing. Since then, it won't keep my system running for more than 2 seconds before the unbelievably loud alarm goes off and continutes to blare out even though the battery displays 0. The only thing this is good for is to ensure it feeds a consisten 110 V to your computer which in theory increases the longevity of your electronics.

I have a much smaller UPS connected to my internet (modem/router) and it keeps the internet up for almost an hour. I understand that a router uses significanltly less power, but a 1500VA UPS should keep even the heaviest gaming rig running for at least 5 min. This dies in less than 2 sec.

Trevor: I went a bit overkill to have extra battery time so bought this unit. In the box is a USB to telephone line cable. I say that because why does it look like a phone cable. There are buyers who don't understand and won't read instructions as they throw the cable away.

APC has a fantastic app that charts power usage of all devices plugged in. To make it happen you need to plug the USB into your computer and the telephone looking jack into the UPS.

I know for a fact it's confusing to consumers. There are Ethernet & coaxial connections meant to protect people. Then they include a USB to what looks like phone line to confuse people.

r.: UPDATE: After talking more with customer support, they sent a replacement unit which has none of the problems my first one did. I still need a bit of gaffer tape to cover up the lights from the buttons, but other than that, it's perfect. APC customer support was helpful and communicated clearly.

I STRONGLY recommend you get the gift wrapping instead of going with standard shipping in the original box that shows what is inside.

The unit is about half the size of a PC tower and is it ever heavy. I'm impressed with the packaging being minimal, recyclable, and yet sturdy. The battery was easy to take out and turn around the right way to get the unit working. The sockets on the back are pretty close together and I'm only able to fit three plugs in the five sockets (computer equipment tends to have big plugs).

When the unit is on, the screen turns off with inactivity, but the three buttons remain illuminated. When the power went out, I couldn't figure out how to turn off the screen and it remained on using up a small amount of battery.
