Coffee Fiend: A UPS is a UPS, what makes this one special? The audible beep when on battery can be silenced. I use these to protect cable modem and other network equipment when power blinks. Bought 3 so far. Best of all, APC is not an offshore company.

CRG48: We bought this for our son who lives in an older apartment building with frequent electrical outages and/or surges. Since his job entails online work from home it's pretty important that he have a reliable power source. During a thunderstorm recently he lost power for a short while but was able to continue working because of this device.

FP: This did its meager job of providing brief backup power to my modem/router/monitor okay for about three years, but then it started to beep LOUDLY. The beep indicates the battery needs replacing. Fair enough. But there is no immediately obvious way to make the beep stop. The power has to be yanked and everything completely unplugged. That was no fun at 4 in the morning, trying to figure out which box on the shelf was beeping (I have multiple battery backups, most heavier-duty than this one).

The replacement battery cost almost $40 - for a $60 battery backup unit! But even worse, there are four screws that have to be removed to change the battery, and in my entire household of screwdrivers, not one of them was long and skinny enough to reach all the way into the unit where the screws are. Normal screwdrivers were FAR too wide to fit into the holes. Narrow electronics screwdrivers I had on hand wouldn't reach the screws, which are recessed all the way into the housing. If I had known this I would never have bought this unit.

The next day I went to the hardware store but the right kind of screwdrivers cost too much for something I'd never use again. $5? Seriously. I went...

SolMan636SolMan636: For years I have used older or larger versions of Schneider UPS. This one is just what I wanted to run my 20 watt router during outage. However, I am not satisfied with a UPS that runs only an hour or two. True that most outages here last only a few minutes so that is great, but I live in hurricane country and need something that will last through my nightly TV viewing at least. The battery in the small unit I purchased CAN BE REPLACED or expanded easily if you have the skills and secure storage location. You can find one on Amazon or eBay for $16 or so. Is that so much?? Let's face it, you can't expect little AGM batteries to last forever, esp. if they cycle, but I find the Mighty Max brand bought here on Amazon has an amazing life and number of cycles. i even use one in my Prius which outlasts the OEM x 4. To open the case there are four little Phillips head screws on bottom.. The connections are the standard for this type battery, and you just slip off and install a new battery. See pics. I just clipped off the connectors and wired the unit to two of the OLD Mighty Max 34ah AGM batteries I had collecting dust. In parallel, of course, to maintain the same 12 volts. Obviously if...
