By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Author)
If you're looking for a vampire horror book that's easy to read and understand, the Laughing Corpse by Laurell K. Hamilton is the perfect choice. This book, part of the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series, is sure to provide readers with an exciting and thrilling experience, as well as overall satisfaction. With its gripping plot and captivating characters, this book is sure to be a hit with horror fans. JWN: I enjoyed reading this book. Once again, this is a mystery and not a romance book but we do see more interactions between Anita and the master vampire, Jean Claude. I like how he flirts with her and is nice to her even though she’s stubborn and wouldn’t do what he wants.
The plot was interesting with a being out murdering families and Anita trying to find it and figure out who was controlling it. In the meantime, a multi-millionaire is forcing her to raise his over 100 yr old ancestor from the grave, which requires the death of a human sacrifice. Lots of action and a bit dark but not as much as the 1st book in this series. In this book, we learn a bit more about Anita’s magic and I’m very curious to see what more she can do in future books. Onward to the next one in the series.

Leonie Mulcahy: A great second book, showing more insight into Anita’s world without giving anything away. I love how the reader finds out information about her powers as she does, love it

BookishChick: I'm rereading the entire series. Because it's the kind where you can. After so many years of awaiting new books I had forgotten so much of the initial books. Still just as hood an entertaining as the first time I read it. Sigh

SL: “Stupidity isn’t punishable by death. If it was, there would be a hell of a population drop.” There’s no particular reason I chose this quote from the book to start out this review other than I thought it was funny. So sue me.
This book starts only a few weeks after the first book, Guilty Pleasures, ended.
Anita Blake begins by meeting a potential new client in need of her animator skills. Too bad this client is a murderous millionaire who doesn’t care who gets hurt, as long as his zombie is raised. As if that isn’t bad enough, she is also working a case with the local police, trying to figure out what type of creature is ripping apart families…literally. And one of her suspects? Just the most powerful voodoo priestess in all of North America, who just so happens to want Anita to join her in her…less than savory enterprises, and is willing to make her do so by any means necessary. And if that wasn’t enough problems, she also happens to be oh so close to being the new Master of the City’s human servant. Very much unwillingly.
Murder, mayhem, voodoo, and sexy vampires. What more could a girl ask for? Some peace and quiet, if you ask...

Amazon Customer: My experience with this book was back and forth between completely entertained and completely board to death. The good parts were GREAT but the middle parts totally put me to sleep. I love the plot of this book and that fact that so many elements were involved in carrying it out. Although, much like the first book, there were a LOT of character's to keep track of. There was also one point at which the plot of the book shifted to "save the stuff penguins." To me there was just entirely too much emphasis put on her ridding her stuff animals from zombie goo than about the actual attack itself. There was also a lot of repetitiveness in Anita and Jean Claude's conversations in the beginning/middle of the book. They just seemed to be having the same conversation over and over and over again. With that said, I thought the ending was AMAZING!!!! The human sacrifice and Anita's raw, all-consuming power was brilliant. I also enjoyed the fact that Jean Claude witnessed the whole thing. I like that he got a chance to witness exactly what she is capable of....although it would have made a deeper impact on me if he were trying harder to control her and not making compromises with...

Sharon: I bought the abridged version by accident but I still was not disappointed, & did not feel I had missed too much before even though I have read the book a couple of times. It arrives in a cardboard box as pictured with one cardboard sleeve holding 5 discs & runs for approxiamately for six hours. The only negative I can say is that the box the discs come is not very strong & could be damaged easily if not handled with care on opening.
The Laughing Corpse is the second of a twenty book series at last count. Anita Blake is a hardboiled aninimator, which means she has the ability to raise the dead, her other talents include being a sanctioned vampire killer and working for the St Louis police force as a prenatural specialist on retainer basis.
She's sarcastic, loyal & protective of her friends she can also kick butt, protect herself & kill to survive ask questions later.
Anita visits a potential client to raise a corpse with her greedy boss Bert, a million dollars is on the table. It's to raise a 300 year corpse, that would take a human sacrifice & understandably Anita says no. She's also called to visit a murder scene & it looks like a...
