thirteenlilsykos: I was wary when the first several chapters found Anita in bed with another one of her "sweeties" Rafael the king of the rodere. The previous book had no sexual encounters, at all, and it felt like a return to older books of the series... almost. I've stated before that I miss the younger (older?) Anita where she shared her bed with her stuffed penguin and had a gun on the headboard. While I understand that Anita can't go back to that, I am very grateful that Ms. Hamilton is steering the series away from the porn novels that the series transformed into. Most readers love/like/will at least allow some smut but, in my opinion, it seemed like Ms. Hamilton ran out of ideas or got burnt out and thought she could fall back on "sexy" paranormal sex scenes and, from I saw, most of her fans got tired of it, quick. It appears that she is finding her footing again and the new books are filled with actual plot and substance... thank goodness. I'd really like to see Anita and crew hunting some greater mountain trolls while out backpacking one time. Maybe they could come across a male park ranger that genuinely does not care about the multitude of people she's sleeping with or the fact that...

Terresa: The last two books were all about stories, plots and twists not just the sex. I'm loving the fact that LKH brought back one of Anita's awesome power!! She has so many and they need to be showcased which they have been here. I could really do with 4-5 more chapters of this book as it ended too abruptly! I want to know what happen after! The analysis, the breaking down of events, the welcome back meeting, more explanation of the rodere brujas power and how the rodere receive Anita now ... I want to know so so much more of the afterwards! I really hope LKH will do a novella on this ... please pretty please ... oh and that blink you miss it scene of Rafael becoming Anita's animal to call ... totally freaking missed it! That really need a bit of expansion and few pages of its own as it was important! Overall a great read! Welcome back the Old Anita!! Xx

Johnny Nys: "Rafael" is the 28th book Laurell K. Hamilton has written in her series about main character Anita Blake. We read about an alternate universe where the world is not only inhabited by humans, but also by vampires and werewolves (and eventually many other were-animals as well). These creatures that used to be considered monsters have also been given some sort of human rights and now legally live among us. Until they break the law, of course, and then have to be euthanized like dogs that bite children, for example.

Anita also worked for a firm specializing in the temporary resurrection of dead people, for example to clarify inheritance issues. To give you an idea that she does have some supernatural powers.

28 books later she has taken over the powers of a lot of bad guys, and she is spiritually connected to some of those supernatural beings. While she's not a vampire or werewolf or anything herself, she has inherited some of their powers. In "Rafael" her relationship with the wererats is discussed. Rafael is the king of the wererats, and his rule is challenged by a new adversary, Hector. Anita must now decide whether or not to combine her powers with Rafael so that he...

Jessica Degler: Ich bin Fan der ersten Stunde. Leider waren die letzten Bücher nicht mehr so gut, der Band davor war einfach nur schlecht. Trotzdem kauf ich mir jedes Buch sobald es erscheint. Rafael hat mir gut gefallen. Nur ein bisschen zu kurz. Ich fände es schön wenn man auch mal wieder Einblicke in Anita's häusliches Leben bekäme. Einfach mal traute Dreisamkeit, oder 4 oder 5....Das hat in den letzten Büchern leider total gefehlt. Immer nur Arbeit und Probleme. Mir fehlt die schöne Seite.
