Discover the world of Animorphs with the first installment of the graphic novel series, The Invasion by K. A. Applegate. This science fiction comic is perfect for children and young adults alike, boasting high-quality print, an engaging theme, and a sturdy binding that make it a pleasure to read. With its vibrant illustrations and easy-to-follow story, The Invasion is sure to capture the imagination of any reader.BethanyBethany: Don't make my mistake and ensure you've taken a look at this book's illustrations before your young reader begins it. I included a few photos of the uncanny valley nature of the illustration - not that it's bad, but just wanting other parents to be able to make an educated choice about this for their reader and ensure it's age appropriate. It was far too creepy for my 8 year old to be able to read.

Trey McIntosh: I remember experiencing Animorphs for the first time when it came on Nickelodeon in the 90’s and finally reading one of the books. I didn’t start at the beginning (I came in at the final book of the David trilogy), so I didn’t know fully how the Animorphs fully got their start, nor did I know that Visser Three was so…eldritch. His morphs were boss battle level, and the art style made certain shots more visceral and uncanny. So seeing him turn into giant monsters was surprising to see. All in all, I’m interested to see how the graphic novel series handles the Ellimist, the Crayak, the Chee & Erik, and the origin of Seerow’s Kindness.

J: I loved the Animorphs growing up and this is a great adaptation. Very nostalgic and faithful to the books. Chris Grine's artwork is perfect for the series.

Jon Rivers: When I heard there was a graphic novel I was skeptical. This thing met all my expectations and then went above and beyond them. My only criticism would maybe be that Tobias and Rachel looks REALLY similar in some panels, but that's hardly worth pointing out. I had recently bought a nice used set of the Animorphs books and purchased the individual ones I didn't get with that set (I re-read them all recently!), so I was excited to buy this. I got the hardcover, because yeah, I'm that die hard.
Looking forward to more of these. Just hope he doesn't release them so fast I can't afford them hahahah
Sadly it looks like the movie is going to suck because KA Applegate and Michael Grant backed out of it due to creative differences, so I WONT be paying for that in any way shape or form.

Adrianne Masling: Excellent translation of the original book. Artwork is fantastic. Nostalgia trip for those of us who read this series in the 90s, but still relevant enough for new readers. 10/10

LeannLeann: I'm a long time, avid fan of the Animorphs series. Started reading it in middle school, and I spent many years searching for and acquiring all of the books as a collection, which I completed 5 years ago. I thought my collection was absolutely complete. I thought this series was dead and only remembered as a quirk of the 90s/00s.
But I was wrong. It turns out it is more fondly remembered than I ever anticipated, and it has made a grand return in the form of this lovely graphic novel adaptation! I was concerned that it would take some... liberties... like the old TV show did, but after reading it for a few minutes it was clear that the artist lovingly rendered every scene as faithfully as possible. This book is most definitely a labor of love and it shows! From the words of acknowledgement from Applegate herself, the setting apparently being in the 90s, the aliens and morphing being suitably creepy and yet not hard to look at, and the beautifully touching expressions on the characters, it is clear that they wanted to give us hardcore fans the highest quality adaptation possible.
I love this series. I love it so, so much, I can't even put it into words. And this graphic...

Charlotte: As a lifelong Animorphs fan, I've tended to be critical of most adaptations of the original books, both official and otherwise. This is, far and away, the best realization of the story of Animorphs #1 since the actual book.
The first thing I want to say is that this is a real adaptation, not just the book but abridged and with pictures. The strengths of the medium of comics are used to tell the story in a new and interesting way. Where the book might have spent a couple sentences describing the impression Jake got from something Tom said, this comic will instead simply leave the sentence hanging, and leave it to the reader to interpret the real meaning behind those words by looking at Tom's facial expression. It's a more subtle take on the story, and I thoroughly enjoyed this version. Through it all, it's still Animorphs, as intense and unflinching as it ever was.
Another thing worth noting are that this comic is based on the 2011 reprint book, which doesn't come up much because of the relative lack of narration, but there are a few elements of the 1996 original that have been updated to be compliant with the larger continuity.
I look forward to future issues...

Rei: If you were ever a fan of Animorphs when you were younger, you’ll love this adaptation. It’s so good. And hopefully it’ll introduce the series to a new generation of readers. Can’t wait to read more.

Daniel: As a fan when the series first came out I love these. It's amazing to see them out for another generation to enjoy and to see them in graphic form. My only complaint and it's enough that I only gave it 4 star is the art. The characters all tend to look a like in the face. They all have the same ruddy cheeks and slightly bulbous nose. Think Santa Claus noses and cheeks. And this is the main characters. Jake, Tobias, and Rachael are basically the same face with different hair.
Still amazing to see these stories back though.
