Michael: Entertaining adventure/mystery set on a moon colony. Good characters and sense of humor. Nothing ground breaking and light on science fiction.

Bill Black: Well, if you did, Buy This Book. Lots of problem deconstruction and solutions, witty repartee and a most interesting plot. Good work, Andy!!

G-Tay: Andy Weir certainly takes you into the final frontier where no man has gone before. Brilliant.

Tino George: The book is good. But not as good as martian or Hail mary. I liked Hail mary more than all his books.
I liked all the details about moon exploration. Overall a good read.

NigELT: Haven't been reading a lot of science fiction recently but this book might change that.
Really needed a sixth star or removing one from all my other reviews.
Great fun.

Roscoe: A fine novel but not in the same league as The Martian. It's basically a thriller/adventure tale that could be set anywhere ... The Moon setting just gives it that extra edge. My kindle copy had a missing page problem; viz: the contents showed maps at the beginning .. there were just blank pages!? Also the chapter heading, and consequently the first page of each chapter were missing!?? As this did not spoil my enjoyment it did not affect my overall rating. A good solid, well paced read.

Cathrine Bonham: I really loved the Martian so when I saw reviews comparing the two books I was interested. Then I saw an interview with the author saying the two books were in the same story world and I was in.
The reviews comparing Artemis to the Martian are accurate it is very similar. Snarky loner uses science to overcome increasingly complex problems in space.
But while Mark Whatley is the guy I can believe would have a complete knowledge of various fandoms, Jazz just doesn't seem that interested in pop culture, and especially not ancient pop culture (remember this takes place like a hundred years from now.) I doubt she knows both classic Star Trek and Clint Eastwood movies. So her constant use of "current" pop culture references seems in consistent with her character.
That said, there is much different about these books too. The Martian was a survival story. Artemis is a heist story. The character of Mark had a static arc. Jazz learns and changes during the story.
I usually dislike stories that glorify crime or criminal lifestyles, but the circumstances in this book were just right to make everyone kind of the bad guys, so lesser of two wrongs I guess?

happy or unhappy?: As with previous books, Weir writes in the first person in a scientifically knowledgeable and coherent manner. The story moves along nicely and I found it absorbing.
Its about life in a moon colony, with smuggling drugs, intrigue, double-crossing, all written in a scientifically plausible manner. In short, it's a good read, however, I thought "the hail mary project" was a better book.

R. B. Emerson: I really wanted to like this book. I read the opening sample given here, and was intrigued enough to buy the book. I bought it from one of the "used book store" listings here, and I'm glad I bought the book this way. If I'd paid full price, at the end of the story, I'd think I overpaid for what I'd just read.
The Martian set a very high standard for Andy Weir. Or, it's a tough act to follow. Artemis doesn't get close to matching The Martian. Period.
There is the "science drives the plot" element seen in The Martian. In Artemis, I think it becomes a case where some piece of technology, or some science fact, suggests where the plot should go, not the plot wants to go in some direction, and there's scientific information to support that choice.
One piece of science connected to basic description of Artemis completely baffles me. The atmosphere there is low pressure oxygen. This in spite of welding, sparking, illicit smoking going on. IIRC the Apollo 1 catastrophe began with a spark in a low pressure, oxygen rich atmosphere. What part of the explanation of Artemis' atmosphere did I sleep through?
Economics plays a significant part of the later part of the...

Big Al: The book arrived promptly and in the condition described. The plot is set in the first moon city and follows a clever, but lowly resident as she tries to make her way in difficult circumstances. It's a very good book, maybe not quite as good as The Martian or the more recent Hail Mary, but you will enjoy it.
