Peggy Carter: I’m still reading. I like the way Brian Kilmead tells this historical account of the paths of two men who influenced American History and politics.

NicolePalin1NicolePalin1: This is the third book I have read by Brian Kilmeade. The other two were Thomas Jefferson and the Pirates of Tripoli (The Forgotten War that Changed American History & George Washington Secret Six: The Spy Ring That Save the American Revolution).
The truth about the relationship between President Lincoln and Frederick Douglas was truly an eye opener. Believing that this was going to be another song and dance tale filled with untruths and regular history book folklores which has been expresses for the past 150 years about wayward occurences leading up to the American Civil War. Reading this I was shocked out the candidness that President Lincoln expressed concerning his feelings about black Americans and their plight for freedom. He was often torn between personal feelings and right and wrong about how humans were being treated. Brian comparison and contrasting of both leaders’ emotions and toil about how to bring slavery to an end was duly expressed within the pages of this book. He also includes others who worked to bring slavery to an end such as the plight of John Ossawattomie Brown who believed that this fight was worth it even if it meant death. An exceptionally...

Noëlle: Lincoln and the the others democrats did not want to have the free slaves to stay in America, he planned to deport them to central America or Liberia or Haiti. The Civil War was not about the freedom of slaves but about the fight against the Southern states which did not want free trade with Britain. Abolition of slavery was a policy to destroy the economy of the Southern states. This book quotes the speeches of Lincoln and other democrats leaders and put the truth first

Tom McGee: I like to watch “The Five” on the Fox Network and especially like Brian Kilmeade. I purchased this book after seeing it advertised on that program.
I have taken black history and literature courses that covered the life of Frederick Douglas and other history courses covering Abraham Lincoln’s life. I have also purchased books about the life of Abraham Lincoln.
“The President and the Freedom Fighter: Abraham Lincoln, Frederic Douglas, and Their Battle to Save America’s Soul” was a unique book that was well-written and contained a large set of detailed footnotes supporting the facts about these two historic figures.
I was unaware that Douglass influenced Lincoln’s thinking so much an changed his outlook on slavery in Lincolns presidency.
Both of these men were self-made men who started out poor and uneducated but elevated there stature and impacted the lives of lives of slaves and Americans in general.
This book portrays Lincoln as a President primarily concerned in saving the Union while Douglas was steadfast in improving the lives of black people in America. Douglass initially doubted Lincoln’s intentions and helped Lincoln change...

Amy H. Gantt: This is an easy read full of the history of both men, Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglass. It is well documented and I enjoyed learning a lot of the inner workings of both men and those around them. Shaping a nation and policies are never an easy task but this does show that minds can be changed for the good and to strive for the Union of the people of this great Nation. Humility is a quality that was undeniably essential for these changes to take place. This book also shows that we as a people have not changed as much as we think we have. Current events show rebellion, mob mentality, voter fraud, disrupting events and even discrimination are still very prevalent and as humans we are at fault. People still cling to the ideas that they are good, but in reality this book shows even the best of us can make wrong decisions based on beliefs and education. We must look to the humility to learn and also the wisdom to understand we are all one race, The Human Race. We can be united if we allow others to take the lead if needed or be the one to speak up for those without a voice. Only one who puts the needs of others ahead of their own for no person gain is fit to lead and/or be a part...
