Celebrate the 75th anniversary of the beloved children's classic, The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes, written by DuBose Heyward! This timeless Easter story is sure to be a treasured gift for any young reader. With its easy-to-read text and uplifting themes of kindness and perseverance, this book is sure to provide hours of enjoyment and overall satisfaction. Make The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes an Easter tradition in your home! An Alberta Reader: I have an original 1939 copy of this classic. It is patched together from all the little hands that turned its pages over the years. I will always treasure it. I have bought several copies as gifts for new generations. The inside pictures are almost exact reproductions of colors and tints. Many good memories invoked.
Although some readers might object to the gender roles as being too stereotyped, they should not let that prevent them from the underlying message that endures through the ages.

R Sugden: I remember this book from when I was a little girl, so I was happy to buy a copy for my own kids. My 8 year old loved the story, but it was a bit long for my 5 year old.

Mark: This was a favorite of mine as a kid and I shared my copy with my younger brother and two Sons over the years. Bought two copies to share with my brother and his young daughter this year and for a great friend that just had a little girl. Hoping they'll enjoy this wonderful story with their kids and pass it down too. I'm saving my "old" copy for my 1st grandchild.

Suzanne: I love stories that teach good lessons without being overly "worthy", and this story has it in spades. The bunny teaches her children to do all her chores - including singing, dancing and painting to make sure the home is a happy one. That way she can become one of the special chosen bunnies and deliver Easter eggs. Lovely illustrations, such a charming story, and not at all smug.

Gordon R. Menzies: A definitive favorite on the list of GRiM's Top 100 Childrens Books celebrating the traditional magic related to the holiday and embracing the virtues of kindness, fortitude and bravery in a tale of an unexpected underdog making the grade. The Country Bunny is a paragon of motherhood as well as an accomplished hero who proves, magic aside, that anything can be accomplished with organization, planning and personal drive. Wonderful lessons here for all.

James: The book is great but I guess I should have looked at the size instead of assuming that it was the same size as the exactly the same hardcover book without the charm so that is on me. My wife liked the idea of the charm and so I purchased this one instead of the much larger exact same hardcover. This one is only 7 inches high while the other one without the charm is 10 inches high which is better for reading and showing the pictures to small children.

Sally Whitney: This year at Easter, I discovered one of the most memorable children’s books I’ve ever read. The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes by DuBose Heyward is the story of how Easter bunnies are selected and how one unassuming female bunny surprised everyone by earning the honor of becoming an Easter bunny. With charming illustrations by Marjorie Flack, the story offers a leading character who proves herself worthy of the honor by demonstrating her wisdom, kindness, and speed in ways no one expected. And along the way she proves that worthiness and value are not determined by color, gender, or station in life.
As the story opens, the big white bunnies who live in fancy houses and the long-legged Jack Rabbits laugh at the little brown country bunny who thinks she can be an Easter bunny. Time passes, and the little brown bunny gets married and soon has 21 baby bunnies to care for. When the baby bunnies are old enough to assume some responsibility, the little brown bunny teaches each of them to do a specific chore. Two clean the house, two cook meals, two wash dishes, two do laundry, two tend the garden, and so on until they all have a job.
Then one day the kind old...
