GeraintHopkins: So, we have a cat who was about ten months old when we got him “done”. Unfortunately, after this, he couldn’t lift his tail up, and he couldn’t poop.
After about three weeks, he had become more and more listless, and my wife finally prevailed on me to take him to the vet.
The vet examined him and then x-rayed him. He looked like a huge poop with a thin layer of cat surrounding it. She kept the cat in overnight and had a dig around.
In the morning, we picked up the cat, who seemed to have lost have half his body weight, and smelled very badly of cat poop. The vet charged me $500 for this and for some cat food which neither of our cats would eat. She told me he had “megacolon” and it was unlikely to get better. He's on a few different medications and in the last few months it's been a constant game of adjusting his med regimen to try and determine the optimal mix to keep him somewhat regular regarding his fecal expression. Recently as I was running low on his fiber supplement I decided to take him off of it to see how that would affect him. Yes, I know, not the smartest move but I though that if it went south I would just put him back on and up his Lactulose (laxative). More and more evidence is coming to light that fiber isn't highly essential if essential at all to humans and I suppose I was basically personifying Oscar in this situation. I'm not 100% sure if that was the cause but he became constipated and shut down for 3 days at which point I called my vet (on a Saturday) and after learning they they were non longer open on Saturdays and that I would have to wait until Monday I hopped on Amazon and after reading the reviews ordered two units of Pet-ema. Soon thereafter I shared the product information with my neighbor who's a vet tech and she said that that was one...
