J. Schneider: Like most people, I think the handle is pretty ugly. Having said that, it works beautifully for scoring loaves before baking. It is a perfect combination of lightness and small size, making for great maneuverability. The razor blade it came with was nice and sharp, but plan on replacing it regularly with a quality brand of razor blade, since obviously that’s going to be the biggest factor in it slashing bread well over time!

pedxing: This works very well and comes in a nice little box. Basically it's a handle and extender to which you can attach double edged razor blades. 5 blades are included.

Bryan Salzman: Although I've had no issues with blade falling off, the blades dull too quickly.
I scored one loaf of bread nicely with one single slash. The very next loaf would not score as quickly. Had to keep going over until I got a ripped version of a score.

flipsideflipside: Seems appropriate, holds a double-edge razor blade for scoring bread loaves prior to baking. The included instructions have images that depict a different shape at the end where the blade is positioned. The model that I received has a straight metal prong, and it works. But the included images show a different prong. It has a curve on one side, and a rounded end. This is similar to traditional lames that I have seen. I have used it once and it seemed to work OK.

Amazon Customer: It is a razor blade with a handle. I have used it a few times but find that a sharp serrated knife does a better job. I expected more and with my experience I cannot justify the price.

Tula G.: I am disappointed in this product the blades are not sharp enough and for bread if they are not sharp the dough deflates by the time you cut into the loaf from 2 to 5 times.

Mary G: I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to score my bread for 6 months. I've tried putty scrapers (essentially, straight edge blades) and knives. I had taken to using a sharp paring knife and essentially 'sawing' the bread. I saw no reason why a lame would work any differently (thinking it might be my dough) but on the very first try I was able to score. Not sure if its the handle/angle or what, but I'm happy.

Patrick Gillis: I guess I wasn't paying attention or maybe the picture changed. I thought I purchased a lame with a wooden handle. It's a little dorky looking but it you are practiced in bread scoring it does the trick. It's not the tool it's the technique and confidence of the baker.
