Took me a while to finally get the spring part out and fix it back in. This was even before I got to use it for the first time!

habanero: I bought these from a local retailer almost ten years ago. They’ve held up well through dozens if not over a hundred hikes, backpacking trips, trail work trips, and even one wilderness first aid class where they were used as splints. The cork handles are very comfortable. The aluminum tubes are sturdy and hold up fine under my 225 lbs and occasional winter 45 pound backpack. I like the aluminum better than carbon fiber because it will bend instead of shatter if it ever fails. I’ve had them out in all kinds of weather. Less than a handful of times I failed to tighten them sufficiently and they slipped a little after going through a stream in cold weather. I would buy them again in a second. In fact, I finally wore through both rubber feet and it was more cost effective to order a new set than to order just the feet. My local retailer started stocking a different brand so I checked Amazon to see if 1) they stocked them and 2) they were the same ones I bought ten years ago. Satisfied, I ordered them. I was concerned about the number of reviews complaining that the feet were missing from their shipments but I assumed such a problem would be solved by now. I was wrong. Mine were...

Thomas J.: Did just one trek and it works for me. Very Sturdy, A small issue though with the locking mechanism....not as smooth as expected. However, Rubber foot shape & grip is excellent for tropical treks.

MOScott: 1st off love the price point. I've used some black diamond $100+ and while they are a bit nicer and maybe a better option for someone hiking on a weekly basis, the Coleman's do a nice job for me. I get up to the higher elevation 3-4 times a year and these have worked great for me for over 12 years. I finally got another set as the rubber tips were worn to the nub and started slipping on a recent trip to NC. There is a small bit of shock absorption and I've never had these actually slip from my adjusted height like some other cheaper brands tend to do. I also love the cork handles. They aren't the fanciest out on the trail but they have gotten the job done for me for 12+ years.

MAB: I like the spring action. The cushioning effect is actually quite nice. Also like the rubber feet on some surfaces. A little heavy, but expected that for the money I was spending. Nice cork grip doesn't get slippery or sticky. Was a little concerned with how the sections pulled apart so easily, but it actually helped with packing them away. That said, for those questioning the strength, if you do not re-insert the sections past the point marked on the pole and screw them up firmly, they will not hold up to pressure. You can also make it impossible to re-insert the sections if you tighten the clamp at the top while they are separated. Imagine this is what some reviewers experienced. They aren't broken. Just fiddly. Other brands don't come apart like these and I can understand why people have trouble with it. I took these on the Oxfam Trailwalker. I didn't use poles for the entire 100km, but they carried me through the steep sections and the final section and I feel I may not have finished without them to lean on. Took my full weight (80kg) up some steep hills.

Amazon Customer: These are great. I used a pair like this during an evaluation of my walking issues at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. These were very hard to find. No retailers had them. Coleman's own web site didn't have them. First order I placed with an Amazon vendor showed up a mess/ parts missing and totally useless. 1 e-mail and about 10 minutes later I was given a full refund and told not to even other to return the defective pair. Next order, with a different Amazon vendor was accepted and the next day a "sorry, out of stock/stock available" e-mail arrived. 3rd try, and this time the site said "supplied by Amazon." They showed up and have been a big help with my physical therapy. The little "foot shaped" tips are what does the trick. I don't use them like a cane, but for additional balance and to help transfer some weight from my bad leg to the "pole." Does the job.

JR: Poles are a good value (stars are for the poles), but unfortunately two out of the three pairs received were clearly not new and missing parts (including the entire bottom sections on one pair- Shipment processors/packers surely weren't paying much attention that day). Ended up with only one pair (wanted 2) that was complete and usable. Amazon did end up comping us for that pair to make up for all the problems and refunded for the other two.
Have gone on a couple 10 mile hikes and the poles work properly and have not slipped at all. Anti-shock gives just a little cushion, which is fine.

MMICHAEL FINK Jr.: Every depiction of the product I've seen shows rubber "feet' on the pole ends, but none were included with the product. You have to order the feet separately. No instructions are provided. I guess Coleman thinks you can figure out how to extend or shorten the length of the poles without clear directions, but I still have not figured how to set up the cushiony "give" when you push down on the poles. The quality of the product is excellent. It's just too bad the over-promising picture and the lack of instructions for setting up the product are missing.
