14-Piece DEWALT Hole Saw Kit for Drilling Through Wood and Metal

SheilaSheila: It states that it comes with 2 quick change mandrels but they are two original mandrels. I sent a message through Amazon to the company that sent them. They stated the DeWalt company put the wrong ones in. They said they can’t make it right but I could return the set for a refund. My husband liked the set and did not want to return it so I have emailed DeWalt and hoping that they will just send the correct mandrels. Otherwise this seems to be a nice set.

Neil Johns: Definitely not the same quality as my Sutton Vipers but not too bad for the money. My only gripe is the mounting pins don’t line up with all the holes and can be a real pain to get them mounted

The graphic insert in the lid showing the 2 quick-change mandrels is 'conveniently' missing too.

BErvin: This is a decent kit for light duty use. I build police and fire vehicles, so I am constantly drilling holes for hide away strobes or LED lights, light bar wiring harnesses, antennas, and other various wiring harnesses. This kit cuts through car body metal and plastic with ease. My only complaint so far is with the 3/4" hole saw. This is one of the most needed sizes for my job as this is the size needed for drilling the holes for permanent mount antennas. If you set all of the hole saws on a flat surface, the 3/4" in about 1/2" longer than all of the other hole saws. Because of this extra length, the center drill bit on the small mandrel that is supposed to work with the smaller hole saws is not long enough even when extended out as far as possible still allowing the set screw to hold it in place. I went to the local Lowes and Menards to see if they had a replacement 3/4" hole saw, but I noticed that on every brand carried, they all had that extra length, which means DeWalt should have supplied a longer drill bit. Other than that, this kit does the job required.

Amazon Customer: Pilot bit for the smaller mandrel isn't long enough, right out of the box it's fairly flush with the teeth of the hole saw. A little adjusting gets the pilot bit passed the teeth, but you can only see it to line it up by looking at it from beside your drill. I opted to purchase a long drill bit of the same size and cut it an inch and a half longer than the one that came with the kit and then filed part of the shank flat for the set screw. Then the case needs a very slight customization to accommodate the longer pilot bit. I chose to do that instead of simply returning it and purchasing a different brand because I really like the quick release mechanism for the smaller mandrel and the structural design of these hole saws is quite impressive. If I could go back in time and do it all over again I wouldn't do anything differently.

Appearance and Quality (4 out of 5)
Nice high contrast yellow, will quickly strip off exposing underlying metal with decent use. The case itself is actually quite nice, and keeps all the bits fairly snug with minimal rattling. These are bi-metal bits so I wouldn't recommend this for everyday or contractor use.

Price (5 out of 5)
I feel with the quality and performance of this product the price is well worth it.

NOTE: As long as you keeps the parts free of debris when you connect them you shouldn't have much issue getting them apart again. This seems to be the biggest issue with hole sales in general.

TL;DR Excellent product, will buy again, would recommend to a friend.
