Amazon Customer: This is a beautiful book. The artwork, the sparkling lilac cover and the merging of writing and knitting. I love it and this would be great as a gift for someone who knits. The patterns are included with all 12 knitting items. As usual Alice Hoffman’s writing is superb. There are 12 short stories to go with the 12 knitting objects. I wish the stories were longer and less predictable but other than that it’s a beautiful book.

Karyn Keith: ...because I have zero skill for weaving or sewing or knitting. I had hoped for more from this based on the author's reputation. The book is an interesting concept actually. But it read very choppy and plain. Like a foreign b/w movie with poorly translated subtitles on a sound track that didn't align with film. What flourish there was felt like the writer was trying to convince me the tale was entertaining and genuine and believable. Instead, all I really believed was true were the patterns (which ironically I can't actually fact check due to my aforementioned lack of soft textile skills, lol).
A foreword of each tale's origin, including culture or heritage, would have satisfied my inner but not subtle nerd.
I enjoy Alice Hoffman's other works (and film adaptation) so I'd still probably read a shopping list if she wrote it.

Kindle Customer: I have enjoyed the stories. They are only a couple of pages long, so you can read through a few at a time, or all in one go. They have lovely patterns that I will definitely use, cute arm warmers, and shawls, and leg warmers. They have a knitted hood and cap as well, but I don't tend to wear stuff like that.
The knitting explanations look reasonably good, I haven't tried just yet, but I hope to when I have time soon. The needle and wool sizes are explained, and there are diagrams showing the knitting patterns with the stories, with an index in the back explaining any shorthand information.

The Disgruntled Spinster: This has NEVER happened in my life, and I have quite a knitting library. If I make three patterns from a book, I am lucky, as usually I only make the one I bought the book to get. This? Every single pattern is going to be a treat. Not only for me, but some will be made multiple times as I will be giving them to friends. Want to know what's in here? An amulet necklace, a capelet, a scarf, a cowl, a shawl, a vest (that is incredibly original), charm bags, glovettes (wrist warmers but fancy), legwarmers, a hat, gloves, a hood, and a lovely blanket - all with stories. I am smitten. The next trip to the yarn store is going to be frightening. I am so glad I took the chance. By the way, I'm a fairy festival fan..and go in costume. These pieces will work anywhere. Patterns are well-written,, and I would say someone who is no longer a beginning beginner, but who has done three scarves and has a support group or mentor can do any pattern here.. Nothing advanced...you don't even have to think of yourself as intermediate. If you can made a cable and a yarnover, you are ready for this book - you will be an intermediate by the time you make everything. I can't say enough good things about it.
