C1nn: A little pricey for a rod but works ok.
It needs to come with a set of washers because when it is mounted with the gear it comes with, it won’t slide back in. The end of the rod has a knob, and when it is mounted flush, there is no room for the knob to slide in, so we needed to add some washers around the screws to ‘lift’ it off a bit. Now the knob slides back into place.

Mike: Building a new closet for a person that travels a lot and wanted a way to prestige the clothes prior to packing. This rod is perfect for that or for pulling out to hand the dry cleaning on while you put up all the pieces. Likewise, it could be useful for hanging clothes to use a steam iron on.
My only gripe with this product is the rather lackluster color of the housing...I wish I could get it in chrome or rubbed oil bronze or even white if it is being used with melamine cabinetry. I will saw that the screws it comes with are 1/2” to 5/8” and I did use two of those, but I anchored the leading holes with a 2 1/2” fastener to penetrate well into the underlying framing.
Finally the nicest thing about this idea is that when it is not in use it is practically invisible...

GsamGsam: We just had our closets re-done by a professional closet company and the Valet Rods they were going to install looked and felt cheap (everything else was perfect) The Valet rod on Amazon is very well built. However when the rod is fully extended there is a slight downward droop on the rod. To compensate for this you can install it at a slight angle so when the rod is extended it is straight. You can see this in the last three pictures where the Rod is installed at a slight downward angle toward the rear. Not a deal breaker. I just assumed that over time with the constant dry cleaning and use it would just get worse.
1 star off for the droop, however I recommend the product!

CLSCLS: This item is a great solution for those who prefer shelving, but still need a little space to hang items also. I opted to put the bar on top of the shelving because the holes in the bar didn't line up with the holes in the shelves...and I didn't want to risk jacking up my shelving lol. Fully extended, the bar comes out far enough to hang about 7 items with some spacing in between the items...but, the rod does tip when fully extended. So, I pushed it in a little, with a max of 6 items and there's no tipping. Very easy to install, took about 5 minutes. I am super pleased! Just what I needed and was looking for!

hillingdoner: Bought one of these over a decade ago and have been using ever since. Decided I wanted to put another on the other side of the closet so both of us could use a valet rod at the same time. After much searching I finally found this one. The valet rod feels semi light for the size, but if it is anything like our other one it is built like a tank. The one I received came with both the stubby screws like the ones you would screw into existing shelf adjuster holes in units like ClosetMaid (what we have) and also 4 self tapping screws that are the perfect size to mount the valet rod without punching through to the other side of the cabinet. I did use an 1/8" drill bit to predrill the holes before running the screws in and would advise that anyone using the self tap screws do the same. I placed some electrical tape wrapped around the drill bit to make a stop so that the bit did not drill too far into the cabinet. Left enough of the drill bit exposed on the end to cover about 3/4 the length of the screw. That way it has plenty of bite without splitting out the cabinet.
