Rachael: We do not have a garage so we attached rhese to the inside of our fence. Once installed it is a very secure rack for your kayak. Highly recommend! Note: if you are storing outside, get a nylon cover for your kayak or at least the opening.

MatthewMatthew: Holds a 14' Old Town tandem otter, which also weighs over 80lbs. It was super easy to install, and everything was good quality. Even the hardware which I was skeptical of because of some reviews but the screws they sent me were pretty heavy duty. Even the drywall anchors all worked fine without any issues, and I usually have to buy a pack from the hardware store to use instead but not with these. They all worked fine. I screwed the center screws directly into the studs of the garage wall (after drilling pilot holes) and then added the drywall anchors for added support. I don't think you necessarily need the drywall anchors but if you have a heavy kayak like mine, it's good insurance in case something fails. Great product, and really helps with storage space. Will probably buy another set for my other kayak.

Edit: bought a second set for my fishing kayak, a 10' Lifetime Teton 100. Again, worked great. Only issue was I mounted to a fance on the posts, and the posts were a little farther apart than I anticipated, so I had to put the hooks a bit further apart than I would've liked. Albertan Skier: Bought two sets to hang up two 12’ kayaks on outside of lake shed wall, one above the other. Cockpits can either face wall or face outward. Super easy to put together and install. I didn’t have any problems with screws stripping or breaking, even using an impact driver to drive screws. However, I did use slightly larger and longer screws than those supplied to go through the two holes in the tubes to go directly into the studs behind the walls. That alone made it solid enough to hang kayaks with the other screws through the metal plates providing insurance. Seems very solid. Highly recommend.

SaskatoonberrySaskatoonberry: Don't waste your money on hangers that cost 2x, 3x, or 4x more! DO buy your own screws, as the ones included break/sheer off immediately (I noted this from previous reviewers). Also, based of previous reviewers, I bought a sheet of foam from the dollar store, and wrapped it entirely around the upper parts of the brackets, just to be sure my SUP didn't get scratched. It's entirely worth getting your own screws and a bit of protective foam, because otherwise, the product is great. (I'm using it for a 10'7" x 32" x 4.5" SUP). I'm not a big person (5'5" and 120 lbs), but have no difficulty at all lifting my board out and back in again.

mel17mel17: This is the best bang for your buck. I originally bought a $300 automatic lift from Costco but during the two week shipping I found this for $30 and decided to give it a try because lifting 40lbs myself for $270 less wasn’t an issue lol. I’m only a little handy so this was a bit too complicated for me so I had to hire somebody to put it up. Also I figured I shouldn’t mess around with something that’s going to be hanging over my car. I helped the guy but it still took about an hour and a half and threading the rope through the pulley was somewhat complicated. Once we figured it out it went up and down very easily and it’s not too heavy. I have had this up for almost a year now and so far it has not fallen down! This really is an amazing purchase!

Ed MatthewsEd Matthews: These were inexpensive and did the job. The hangers protect the hull with a nice layer of firm rubber foam over the metal , although note my comments about the risk of scratching the hull below. I bought 2 pairs of these hangers and use them to store 2 kayaks, one above the other in an outside garage.

I had to choose where I placed the hangers carefully as each hanger comes in two pieces, a top half and the bottom half. There is a screw that joins these 2 pieces and it sticks out. If you place the hangers too close to the middle of the boat, the screw can scratch the hull, so make sure you experiment with how the hanger fits your boats hull, before attaching them to the wall. In my case I have 12.5' Kayaks, and I placed the hangers 18" in from each end.

The manufacturing quality is not great, and the plates that are screwed to the wall were not aligned to each other, i.e. once I'd screwed the bottom plate to the wall, the top plate was twisted and not flush. However it did come flush once I drove the screws in. I didn't use the screws they provided, rather I used 1/4" x 1.5" lag bolts into a piece of 2x4.

Overall, they do the job at a good price.
