Petrus: It’s nice and heavy, little stiff and tight. If you’re looking for an almost military style solid blanket, this would be a good one. has some odor to it, hoping that goes away over time, but brand new out of the wrapper you smell its a wool blanket. Warm.

DadOfThree: I really am enjoying this blanket. I bought it for cool nights around campfire or Friday night football games. It is wool so it is a bit itchy but not horribly so. It offers great warmth and seems to be very durable. I also like the size of the blanket, at 6'1" I have to problem covering up. It does come with an odor but I thought it went away after a few days out of the plastic shipping bag. For the price it represents a great value. It is not what I would call a light weight blanket, nor is it easy to clean as dry cleaning is recommended.

Christopher K Bond: Bought a few of these to equip our vehicles with emergency blankets. I did a little research between this blanket and another, perhaps more popular, low-cost wool blanket that is very popular here on Amazon. I ultimately chose this one because these blankets are basically felted whereas the other kind was not, which means that these blankets will be better at blocking wind if needed, and may be warmer overall, as well. In fact I compared this blanket with several others in the same price range and felt that this one was the best. I find the merino wool to be very soft and smooth (for a cheap wool blanket... it is still rougher than some other non-wool materials). Unlike many other similar wool blankets, these blankets really are not itchy, which is really nice. I expect you could comfortably have this blanket against your skin, whereas my other simple military-style wool blankets are a bit itchy and really are better used on top of another blanket. Because of the felted texture I expect low shedding, which can be a problem for some wool blankets. Also, there is a faint but distinct smell to them. I don't know if I'd describe it as a chemical smell, but it's not...

Shaun Casey: Fresh out of the packaging, I intially was going to return this blanket. It smelled terrible and had a rough oily texture. I would in no way choose to cuddle up in this blanket for warmth. It would never see the inside of my home, let alone tent. After much research on the well documented subject, which is clearly a problem with many Indian made wool blankets, not just Woolly Mammoth brand. I took it to a commercial dry cleaner to be dry cleaned. I specifically told them the issues and whatever they did completely removed the smell and somehow made it much softer and removed the oily texture of the Merino wool. If you are going to buy a wool blanket for early spring, late fall winter camping this is a nice blanket, but only after some work. I wish the manufacturer would read this and other comments and deliver it pre dry cleaned. I would then give it a 5 star.

Brian Gomez: Wow!! I know wool and have for 20+years!I was expecting a nice piece or worth the money paid, but this blanket is easily worth the $200 range. It is of great quality wool yarn. Being of long staple is the test to check and what you want if you want along lasting/ almost heirloom quality piece. This blanket is just that. Great quality merino yarn but of long length which means it’ll last ALONG....time., and unlike my Ektos 90% wool blanket....This one doesn’t continuously shed material all over the place. It’s super soft right out of package. It’s a tight spun yarn that’s woven loosely so you can see a little light through when holding a flashlight, but it’s more of a lofty blanket. Which is perfect for how I use. I use as the base layer blanket with a tight weave wool blanket like there Explorer series, on top of it. Together it keeps me toasty outside down to 20’s. I haven’t even washed it yet and it’s not scratchy against softest parts of body! No smell other than mild natural lanolin scent. The outside double stitching is just awesome and should ensure it’s durability and many many years of use. This blanket is easily worth twice or three...
