After reviewing all the can crushers I went with this one and did two things. I mounted it to a piece of 3/4” plywood before putting it on the wall. The biggest complaints for these are that the rivets fail. So the second thing I do is indent the can slightly with my hands before crushing it- it reduces the force needed to crush it. Mine has been in use over six months with no sign of wear. It does not crush completely flat. I had thought of modifying it to do so but then the rivets would give sooner. This works well.

Decent overall as far as I can tell. However, if you mount this flush, the lever joint will bump into the wall or post behind it that is not of less width than the back part of this unit.
Would it be too difficult to design such a unit where it can be mounted flush and still have full range of movement?
Otherwise, you can not crush the cans completely. That was kind of annoying. You'll have to find a separate board thinner than the width of the interior back side to mount first, then mount this unit on that to allow the proper space for a complete crush.
Also, neither the platform the can sits on or the top portion that presses down are burred at all. So cans will have the tendency to pop out half crushed, (especially once wet from dribbles of liquid on the base platform) and then it can be difficult-to not worth the hassle to crush it down to proper size- defeating this units purpose on such occasions.
On a positive note, there seems to be a built in bottle opener at the base. Very thoughtful. If only they put similar thought into designing a more secure gripping base and top. I am going to attempt the use of some non-skid with...
