Robin: I used to read the Calvin & Hobbes books when I was a kid and remember them fondly. I have now bought all of the books for my own kids. We enjoy reading them together every night (I laugh out loud frequently at these strips, so it's something I look forward to as well). My older son is an avid reader, and has already re-read the books we've finished multiple times. He doesn't seem to get tired of them.
The biggest difference I've seen is in my younger son. When I tried reading other books with them at bed time, he'd always wander off or start playing with something else. With Calvin & Hobbes, not only does he stay put (miracle!), but he asks questions about what all the big words mean, and he shocked me the other day when I came across him reading one of these books. Voluntarily. On purpose. With access to plenty of other things to play with.
So yeah, definitely worth buying!

RNHart: Love the book. It was in fair condition but may have been damaged during shipping? Because it was bent pretty badly in the middle of the spine. Not badly enough to prevent me and my kids reading this book and laughing!

Mark West: Another cracking collection (circa early 90s), this runs through the year so we get the seasons and panels relative to them - camping out in the wilds, when only Dad is interested; Hobbes not getting a Christmas present, apart from a lovely hug from Calvin - and it works brilliantly. Stand-outs include the reading of bedtime stories being a Dad’s job (“you didn’t do the dishes?”), the formation of G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of Slimey girlS) and the panel “I hope some day I’m as a smart as [Dad}” - “Why, what did he say now?” This also has the sequence where the house gets burgled and takes the brave move of exploring all three main characters’ reactions to it. Wonderfully heartwarming, funny as anything, this is well worth a read and very highly recommended!

reeree0040: I love Calvin and Hobbes. My dad used to read them to me growing up. He passed a few years ago. Recently I came across my old Calvin and Hobbes and got into them again as reading comfort food.

This book does have a great multi-comic strip line-up in which Calvin plots revenge against Roslyn the Baby-sitter, hence title. It is strictly black and white, no color like some of the anthologies. I opted to finish my collection of original books, instead of getting the collectors edition. I believe if you do that, there are some repeats, and I noticed in reading this book some seemed familiar as if I had read them before. But I am also re-reading the series so it's no surprise. It's not like I sat down and cataloged what comics are in what books and in what order.

If you are looking for a gift for a younger child, either as a way to introduce the comic into their lives, or just to complete your collection, I recommend this book. I actually haven't seen this book in bookstores, so I was happy Amazon had it. If it's a first book of someone, I'd say go for a colorful anthology so they can really get the full appreciation. I would get this book again, though. Wonderful read.
