IonBlue: I’ve carrier the Spartan and Explorer. This is exactly what I needed for EDC. A PHILLIPS HEAD instead of CORK SCREW. And it’s narrow in my pocket…

TMax: As soon as I picked up this particular knife I was sure. Thin, light, short, but not too short to end up with too short knives, or tools.
I’ve only had this particular knife for a few months, but so far I’ve been completely satisfied with the choice of tools. Sure there are more tools that I could use, this is not my first Swiss Army knife, I have quite a few, including one of the larger ones with lots of tools. Still, when you boil it down, certain tools get used more than others. Corkscrews and wood saws are rarely used everyday for me at least. Scissors too, though often used, are just too small for a sturdy implementation. Far better to have a good sharp knife, or two really, in this case a smaller one that works for higher leverage uses, box cutting, or any use that benefits a smaller blade to prevent inadvertent cuts. The longer knife shines for easy cutting of larger items, and doubles for a food knife.
As a comparison, I have a much smaller multi-tool. It is smaller that this knife by half, and it has more tools, but it fails In the sturdy catagory, the single knife is just too small, with a tiny spine, and a one side taper that makes sharpening difficult. That...

Bangkok Bill: I have owned many Swiss Army Knives over the last 50 years or more. First knife I ever bought was one of these but this is my favorite size for EDC because it has what I need and nothing more. I hate the ones with a cork screw instead of a philips and I don't need to carry scissors all day, a sharp knife will cut things just fine for me and if I need scissors, I have them on my Leatherman that I keep in my briefcase. I carried the Cadet of the last 5 years, but Nutin Fancy is wrong about that one, it's just not got enough tools on there to make it worth pocket space. The smaller SA knives are too small to do much, I like the size of the screw drivers on this tinker the best but the bigger SA knives take up too much space for things I never really use. This is the American version of the SA knife, tools Americans need and use. I carry this mostly for the tools on it besides the knives because I always carry a 4 in. lock blade of my choice of that day, I have many to pick from. I like having this knife always with me as a back up incase I forget the real knife. This is not expensive so it makes sense to give it a try for a few months, I think you'll love this sweat spot of SA knives.

Matt: Any genuine Swiss Army Knife is a nice knife. My Tinker with black scales is no different. The quality is what you'd expect. Excellent steel on the tools. The blades are nice and sharp out of the box. All the hinges have that same satisfying snap that Swiss Army Knives are known for.
The Tinker is a Spartan with a Phillips screwdriver instead of a corkscrew. This is a great substitution in my opinion. The corkscrew can be useful for picking a knot say, or holding a mini screwdriver. But I've never actually needed a corkscrew for a cork...I find myself often using the screwdriver though. So that's great.
Also the Tinker/Spartans are just two layer knives, which makes them nice and slim in the pocket. Perfect for an Every Day Carry (EDC).
The black scales look really nice, though they do show finger prints. I enjoy the change from the classic red though.
To sum up, this knife is a great entry in the Swiss Army lineup. And it has all the build quality you'd expect from Victorinox.

Groundoggy: Perfect minimalist combo pocket knife (for me). In my line of work all I really need as 'gotta have it now' tools are a blade, a flat head screwdriver and a phillips head screw driver. Since I already carry too many keys, a AA EDC flashlight and a front pocket carry wallet - being able to ditch carrying 2 screwdrivers is a huge benefit.
The parts I am generally removing are captive single Phillips screw retained items requiring only a 1/4 turn for removal with plenty of room for the T-handle style Phillips this knife is ideal. I didn't want 18 different tools in my knife. I wanted something small and effective for 90% of my needs and this knife handles those jobs. I even manage to use the can opener for the occasional canned lunch without a pop top. Amazingly, I haven't even had to use the bottle opener yet - but trust me, that need is GOING TO HAPPEN eventually!
I've had other Victorinox knives given as gifts that were nice, thoughtful gifts (no Phillips) that I made occasional use of - but the Tinker has the tools I need and nothing more. My appreciation for Victorinox and their selection went up several notches. They make a very good quality product and offer...
