qq: I bought this for motorcycle tires, for which it works very well and quickly, but I think it moves enough air fast enough that it would be a good choice for automobile tires as well, which is not the case for many portable air pumps. It's not horribly loud, and it has good heat dissipation which is helpful when inflating tires from empty. For regular use you might want to replace the hose end with an air chuck, but the screw-on connector is fine for occasional use.

Kevin L. Sink: I just bought another one for my family. I've had this model for 10 years and it is head and shoulders above the other portable compressors sold for the general public. The fill time is good for such a small compressor and it can get my truck tires up to the 44PSI max. The previous box type just couldn't get there. It is not as fast as a 120V home compressor but it is a fraction of the size and costs much less. I usually intermix other tasks like checking the oil and wiper fluid while I pump up the tires. No sweat.
Pros:
Screw type valve adapter is really secure
It can reach tire pressures other models cannot
It does vibrate, but not around in a circle like other models - it stays put on its feet
VERY solidly built compressor head
Cons:
The head gets VERY hot - I let it cool off in the truck before putting it away
At year 8, the plug was brittle and broke in the back - wrapped it in electrical tape
At year 9, the cord insulation wore through where it went into the housing - I took it apart and spliced it internally.
In short - It works great compared to other homeowner type models, and if you are a little handy, can keep it...

Kumar: I am writing this review after 6 years of use. It’s an excellent product. Looks very aesthetic and also performs well. After six years of use the pushback pin on the power plug became loose and lost. Difficult to get a spare in market. No contact available for customer service. Have asked for support in the FAQ. Hopefully I will get the support.

Nitro RatNitro Rat: What more can you say about a product with 4.5 Stars and 1700+ reviews? There are some products that just make you giddy; this is one of them. It works flawlessly, anytime, every time. I've owned a ViAir 85P for about 2 years. I purchased it for a car emergency bag. It has saved my butt more times than I can count. I don't drive brand new cars that are two years old; I get my money out of cars and always end up driving cars that are 13+ years old. Likewise, I don't replace my tires every 20,000 miles either. So, my tires often seem to have a slow leak and can run with low pressure over time. I don't often notice this 'till I'm at work or away from the house.

The ViAir 85P inflates tires FAST! It is a 12 VDC compressor (with max 15A to 20A draw), or about 240 Watts (~1/3 HP) max. It's not a 220 VAC 8 HP shop compressor, so it won't inflate you tire in 5 seconds. But compared to all the other 12 V compressors, this thing is KING! The more powerful ViAir compressors pull too much current for a cigarette lighter (they must use alligator clips direct to battery). Souljacker777: After comparing a lot of different products and reading a lot of reviews went with this air compressor for my tires. I am a stickler for keeping the tires on my vehicles at their recommended pressures, especially my motorcycle tires!! I wanted a compressor that was fast and could handle up to 55 psi (tires on my camper van). I also wanted a compressor of good quality that would last. I have 2 old junk compressors that are useless.

I had 2 concerns purchasing this compressor. First, I did not think I would like the screw on tire chuck, especially for my motorcycle tires where the valve stems are more difficult to get at and in fact I purchased an angled chuck for that anticipated problem. Well, the angled chuck I bought was unnecessary. This screw on chuck is easier, works better and is more secure than the typical clamp type chuck. My next concern was that the unit is powered by an auto 12 v aux outlet requiring a minimum of 15 amps/180 volts. I was not able to figure out how many amps and volts go to my aux outlet and figured that an a/c plug in unit would have more power. Bottom line....no problem. Have used the unit plugged in to 2 different...

CS: Good build quality, it doesn't rattle if you place it on the ground, the cable is long enough to reach all four wheels without problems. It inflates very quickly just make sure you car's power outlet meets the specifications, if not, then you can always get an adapter that you connect directly to the battery. I got an adapter just to be sure and it works great.

wsamel: This little pump is very fast and runs reasonably quiet compared to other
small air pumps. It looked bigger in the pictures but is really quite small.
Don't let the size bother you as it runs nicely and pumps lots of air.

I use it to fill a small air tank used as an air blower for cleaning electrical
switches and small carbs on mopeds etc.

It looks like a little engine and is handy to move around with the built in handle.
Gauge is good and has a power light and off/on rocker switch.

So far I think these VIAIR pumps are about the best small pump available.
(They have one a bit larger as well that pumps a bit more air and up to 150 psi.)

This 85P model pump can be used for auto tires, motorcycles, bicycles and others.
I see no problems with it but don't expect a large sized unit when it comes.
It is built well and I find no apparent faults with it for a small fast economical air pump. (no tank)
