Bryce Smith: I absolutely loved this book by the end. For me, I had to go a few rounds before falling into the flow that each letter brought. But once I got into the rhythm, I could feel myself being pulled along.

Derv: managed to read it over a span of a couple nights sitting in bed before drifting off. A bit dense for some, but thought the prose was beautiful and the story wonderful. There's a lot said in few pages.

Amazon Customer: I read this book in a few days. I love how it flows back and forth through history. I've learned alot just through the little pet names. Very creative. I really enjoy books that are different. I've truly never read anything like this before. Kudos. I got this book after seeing book sales skyrockted due to that one tweet that said to go get this book, but don't look anything up. Glad I did. Kudos to the writers and the suggestion because it's very deserving.

Kindle Customer: I knew this book was going to be up my alley the minute I started hearing about it. I had it on my to-read list for a long time and then it came back up in my reading circles and I decided to give it a try. I'm a big sucker for queer romance and sci-fi so I loved all the pining love letters between Red and Blue. There's a beauty in the authors just going all out on the flowery language and the increasingly convoluted ways in which they send each other these letters. There's an aspect of queerness that I love about this book in allowing the leads to be these forces of destruction, calculating secret agents, pieces of causes much larger than them while still letting them be soft and sappy on occasion. And the passion and ferocity of their love is just something I would like to see more of. Give me more absolutely unhinged relationship dynamics across time and space please! It's a wild journey of a book and I think the shorter length works to its strength as the back and forth nature of the letters was starting to drag a little before the climax kicks in. The descriptions in this book are incredibly vibrant and pulled me in very easily. I wouldn't say it's a book for everyone who...

Gordonette Freeman: Bigolas Dickolas was right.

Don't read anything about the book, just dive in it.

These words are needed to post my very useful review, so here they are.

サム: You like sci-fi right? If you also like overly flamboyant gushing love letters between two strangers you're never given any reason to care for, then have at it. Otherwise win the time war for yourself by doing something else.

Written as an exchange between two time-traveling agents, Red and Blue, on two opposing sides of a war that spans eternity, in prose that is fittingly Purple. Highly abstract and open ended, this will be an enjoyable diversion for people with the time to dedicate to less conventional science fiction.

E A V N: I don’t know that I have sufficient words to explain the depth confusion, desperation, love, emotion, that you feel or reading this book.

The format was confusing at first, but once you get used to it, and you consume each piece, and the seeds that are planted begin to bloom in your mind, and all of these threads start to make sense. At the same time with every new entry, you still feel confusion, you still feel a depth of emotion you can’t quite grasp, and you become attached to characters that for the most part, you can’t quite fathom.

Red and Blue are agents on opposite sides of a post human time war. You follow them through their time traveling missions in which their actions change and redirect outcomes, they seem to both witness experience and celebrate each action in a detached dismissal and also reverence. They both notice each other’s fingerprints, actions, and methods in each mission, actively thwarting each other and each sides plans in this grand scheme that feels both personal and excessively depersonalized. they gain appreciation for each other, and so they start to reach out and converse and through these words and conversations they fall both...

Jade: “You’ve always been the hunger at the heart of me, Red—my teeth, my claws, my poisoned apple.”

My brain hurts. I've read sci-fi before but this made me question my intelligence.

I'm struggling to process this book never mind try and write a coherent review.

First of all this is a story of how Blue and Red are rivals of different sides from different multiverses?? The best I can explain it is that Red represents technology and Blue the earth. Or at least that's the world's in which they respectively come from, were grown as weapons etc. They are worthy opponents and thus their story grows through the letters in which they send over many timelines. It's hard to say how many years that their story unfolds over but I would guess it's over a couple of centuries. With each letter and each life time these two rival assassin time travellers fall in love. Amidst lots of casual murder and a time war.

Now why is this time war happening? Who knows! Do I grasp the concept of power and how it can apply here to events that unfold and how each timeline impacts the world therefore giving that power to the "winners"? Absolutely. But the authors don't really give...

Casey CarlisleCasey Carlisle: This was beautiful and quaint. Packed with story and subtext. Told in alternating perspectives, Blue and Red are epyphonous creatures and hard to pin down, as is the mulit-verse and multi-dimensional landscape in which they travel. While romantic and full of colourful, this ethereal tone did make it hard for me to truly connect with the characters and the world. Everything is so changeable, malleable. While brilliant and a masterstroke in storytelling it did leave me feeling like I wasn't quite grounded in the story. I struggled at the start to find my footing. To make sense of it all. But war is messy (not to mention jumping around in different points of time) so I guess the chaotic nature of battle marries the format of the novella.

Some may find this hard to get into. It is a dense read. There’s a lot to decipher in story and subtext. Max Gladstone and Amal El-Mothar’s writing style is embellished, melodic, and a little pretentious. It didn’t flow easily for me... I had to really concentrate to work out who each character was and who they are in relevance to the world at large – I think this may isolate some readers (depending on your reading level.)

The...
