fkm333: Couldn’t put this down, an amazing insight into a life well lived, one who has been my hero and who lived up to expectations…. respect Michael and thanks

Mrs S: A well - written book, most engaging at its best. Main criticism is that the reader perhaps gets a bit weary of the repetitive lists of names. It does perhaps point to the conclusion, though, that although the author undoubtedly worked really hard to acquire his great expertise, success is also dependent on who you know and how you treat them.

Michael: Although I really like Michael as an actor and writer... I felt this book was/is just a continuation of his earlier work. It tends to drag on towards the end.

As per the actor's perspective: His earlier work is more suited to the profession.

cheers.

Annie R.: What a treasure Michael Caine is! This delightful book is full of the most helpful and genial advice one could ever want. If you're an aspiring actor, it would be invaluable. Even for someone like me, well past the age of career ambitions, it was an enjoyable read and a great reminder of life's best lessons.

Emmy: ... but then he's an actor not an author, used to repeating what other people write. Interesting some times, but also very boring at others

james: Before reading this book, I listened to an Audible edition of Michael Caine's autobiography "The Elephant to Hollywood," which is fascinating and entertaining.

I was so pleased with the audio book that I bought "Blowing the Bloody Doors Off" without investigating it further. I didn't realize it was largely aimed at aspiring actors.

Mr. Caine intersperses his reminisces with pithy and valuable advice to young actors gleaned from many decades of hard knocks, humiliating gaffs and great successes. Even for those of us who will never attempt to perform on screen or stage, many of the tips and warnings provide insight into the world of acting. For movie fans like me, the insights provide a greater understanding of what we see on the screen.

Mr. Caine is a delightful writer, optimistic despite many trials and early years of desperation. He emphasizes the many strokes of good fortune that propelled him to the top his craft. Highly recommended.

Alexandrine: I don't have to introduce Michael Caine to anyone, I hope. He is a brilliant actor and I always admired him in his roles through his whole career from "Zulu" to "Interstellar". He is simply one of the best actors I have ever seen in a movie. And I am really glad that he wrote "Blowing the Bloody Doors Off". It is full of good advice, interesting stories about his life, career and people he met along the way. His wonderful personality, sense of humour and talent really shine through the pages and it was such a treat to read about his life. What surprised me in a good way was his modesty. He is such a celebrated, successful actor that it would be easy for him to lose perspective, but he didn't. I am grateful for the stories he shared and I know I will come back to this book again and again.

I recommend this book to everyone, but especially to Michael Caine fans, actors and people aspiring to be actors.

Jimmy Boy: A pleasant entertaining read, light on depth; human and revealing but better elsewhere?

As a lifelong fan of Michael Caine and his innumerable characterizations on-screen I anticipated this book with great pleasure and expectation and pleasure was certainly derived from the easily-digestible and 'Caine-accented' writing style.

Mild disappointment followed completion as I found the book failed to satisfy my, perhaps unreasonable, expectations as follows.

The lessons were few, fundamental and (for me and literal tolerance) too-oft repeated. Be timely, be prepared, look forward (not back), don't pay attention to tried-and-tested advice from those you can't rely on for honesty and your best interests and always be involved as you never know where the next (better) gig is coming from. Get stuck in and 'blow the bl**dy doors off'.

Much detail of his humble beginnings/parentage/disadvantage/health etc., is a great framework for measuring the intensity of his slow, stuttering/stumbling-yet-inexorable rise to fame through "Alfie", "Hannah and her Sisters", "The Italian Job", "Sleuth", "Dressed To Kill" and the "Batman" trilogy in which he found himself...
