Duc Hien Le: The book can be a little hard to read for beginners, but it actually very important and must have for any student. If you can learn from this book, you actually save plenty of tuition money to study the same thing in any expensive art school. Once you are able to grasp the fundamentals, you will have a very strong start in your art skillset.

QuinnQuinn: I actually REALLY love this book! I tried to refund it after making a sudden impulse buy, but when I received it, I ended up keeping it.
Super informative, and it also comes with an app where you can scan the page and it plays helpful videos. I personally have a hard time learning from books because there usually isn't enough visual aid. But the explanation videos are incredibly helpful, and make it a worthwhile purchase compared to other books on Amazon.
If you're debating about learning between a book, or free from the internet, I say ONLY buy this book if you're stuck and learning from the internet isn't helping. Too many times I'll buy a new art book just for it to gather dust and look cool on a shelf, lol.
I bought mine used and it came in practically looking brand new.

Amazon Customer: So I don't normally leave reviews, but as an artist myself who intends on becoming a concept artist, I felt that I am reasonably competent to tell you what you can expect from this book and why its a great start for not only those who want to level up their sketching but also for those who have ambitions to break into an art / design focused industry. This book teaches you to sketch methodically like a 3D modeler. Except instead of pushing a button to drop a cube with a mesh on your screen.. you have to draw all that construction yourself. But the better you are, the less construction you need to draw as your visualization skills will get better.
So first things first, what is the skill level? Well there are 10 chapters in this book. First one covers materials and tools; generally paper and pencil (with rulers and guides). But I also do a lot of drawing digitally, so I have learned how to use the book to learn and understand drawing techniques regardless of what I am using fairly easily. So even if you don't have all the tools and you literally only have a pencil and paper, you'll be fine. There are drills artists can do to draw straighter lines and better circles/ellipses...

Amazon Customer: This book is very much worth its weight in gold. For the reviewers who say this is not a beginner book, well, I started this book as a beginner. The only thing I knew about perspective was that items get smaller the further they are and that anything above the horizon line angles downward towards the vanishing point and anything under the horizon line angles upwards towards the vanishing point. Now I know how to multiply using perspective, work with planes, create grids and build objects with volume.
I'm not saying that this is an easy read. This is a book that I needed to pick apart page by page. I worked every exercise and spent at least 2 hours each night studying it. If I found that I was struggling with an exercise for too long, I would move ahead to the next exercise and when done, I would go back to the previous exercise and try again.
Yes, some of the example exercises could have been more helpful, such as providing us with the angles of the left and right vanishing points (because a lot of my working samples ended up very skewed). I found that by tracing the example from the book, I could then work the exercise easier. I then would practice it multiple times...
