Amazon Customer: This is as good as the other books in the series. It is very entertaining to read and fast paced. The author has managed to keep it fresh, which is hard to do in a series.

Kindle Customer: The books just keep getting better. The characters are wonderful and quirky. The plot is twisty and interesting. The world building is superb. I can't wait to read the next book!

mary: This is a great series. Fun, interesting characters. More importantly you aren't drowned in sex disguised as a love scene. The few out on audible are excellent!

Anna H.: Love her books - for the positive vibes in the writing (and laffs), but also for the practicality of the book itself, print is large enough for old eyes, and the book light enough for arthritic hands to hold while reading in bed. Hope she keeps this up!

Caitlin: Every now and again, you stumble onto a brilliantly entertaining series and think, surely they can’t ALL be this good?

Well, dear readers, in this case you’d be very much mistaken.

(haha “in this case” pun bc they’re all case files. I’ll see myself out)

A delightfully twisty story, this one had me scratching my head at one point thinking, “Ohh, SOANDSO did it. Oh but wait, no what if it was natural causes? Oh but WAIT everyone’s got something to hide now!”

The tea in this story is so strong, I’m wondering if Jamie taught them how to make Long Island Iced Teas.

Pacing was great, I loved the growth of the overall story in each book with their relationships (not just the romantic ones, but all of the relationships), and honestly, I volunteer as tribute to work the paperwork side of things for Jamie. HMU with a transgalaxial hookup!

Can’t wait to read the next one!

Janine A Wood: Love Henri and Jamie, and the Felixes, of course. I also love the adaptations of our products into better versions for use in Henri’s world

JonathanRO: I have loved all of Honor Raconteur's Henri Davenforth series. The characters are just lovely, the premise is excellent and the cases different each time so I'm always drawn in. I like how Jamie is slowly bringing modern devices and investigative techniques into her new world, it's never a glut and as magic is involved I have always found the adaptation of modern tech to be plausible. Everything about the books just fit neatly and satisfylingly.

Above all else I love the characters. They are all good people whom we learn more about with each book, it's always in small increments. The characters feel real and human. It's what keeps drawing me back to the books, the cases are interesting but it's the people that I actually care about.

In this 7th book Henri and Jamie are tasked with finding out how a friend of the Queen has died. All is not as it seems, as you would expect, and the team have a devil of a time figuring the case out. The cats feature quite a bit in this story which is always an added bonus! I highly recommend this if you're continuing on in the series, and if you're thinking about starting the series then begin at book 1 and expect to be at book 7 within...

Luiz Henrique Nogueira Modesto: I really enjoyed the detective/magic story. The plot kept suspects open right until the very end. Furthermire, the balance between magic and mundane solutions is hard to achieve, but achieved it was. Can't wait for the next one.

Mina: Note: I strongly recommend to read the books of this fantasy crime series in the intended order and start at the beginning (which is not here).

Review
As usual, I delight in coming back to the wonderful magical world FBI agent Jamie Edwards got thrown into two years ago. She is now (finally) dating her work partner Henri and I love that they are such an amazing and chilled couple. There is never any angsting, no drama, just love, friendship and everything that is good about people.
But that is of course not true for all of the people, as is shown in the heinous crime the investigators are asked to solve by the queen herself.
A society lady’s body is found and there are strong hints that it wasn’t an accident. As the list of possible suspects gets longer and the modus operandi is a sound unknown, the two have their work cut out for them. But a usual, the mixture of solid police procedural, Jamie’s intuition and Henri’s magic gets them clue after clue right until the not too obvious perpetrator.
The case at hand was really mind-boggling and it kept me glued to the pages- and as always I so loved Jamie’s pop-references no one besides her (and the reader)...
