ARules: My son turned me on to this book, and I am so glad he did!! If you are interested in our planet, it's history, and the cultures that have shaped us, you should buy this book. You will not be dissapointed...you may even be mesmerized. I often get pretty sad when I think about the way humans treat each other....somehow, the many smart minds that are described in this book, not to mention the engaging way in which Graham writes...well, it just gave me a lot to think about...a positive escape shall we say?

Josey Lyons: The paper was a little harshly cut and the glossy cover felt cheap. There were a handful of typos in the book. For those reasons, I gave it a 4 out of 5.

The actual content of the book was very fun to read! Take it with a grain of salt, and some of the information is a bit dated, but that is limited to minimum chapters. For example, Crustal Displacement is widely regarded as unsupported in 2023. The oldest human remains so far found have been in Morocco that place back to 315,000 BP. Minor things, but I was still able to really enjoy this book and put on my tin foil hat for a fun read! I found his sequel, Magicians, to be very repetitive ad nauseum and the actual printing had similar issues, except the printing of the binding was way off-center and the pages were harshly cut to where the edges felt like construction paper. I expect more from a $20 printed paperback.

I picked this up again, because I was looking to do research for my next book… mostly just looking for inspiration. I downloaded the e-book version so that I could highlight relevant portions, and then listened via audio to the portions that didn’t seem as important for my purposes. This time, I loved it!

Relevant for me were the beginning and the end primarily, with respect to the potential deep prehistory of Antarctica. Hancock made a compelling case that it was, essentially, the site of the lost island of Atlantis (though he never used that term that I can recall… but I do remember when I was researching how Plato described Atlantis while writing “The Atlantis Bloodline,” the way Antarctica was described on the ancient maps sounds eerily accurate.) He then jumped to South America, and then spent a chunk of the book on Egypt, which was a repeat of the previous book I’d read by him that was entirely about Egyptology… there, he was making the point that a race of demigods had apparently visited the ancient peoples of our known civilizations, and left behind “fingerprints” in the form of unparalleled architecture with astrological purposes....

Jose a.: Buenísima lectura para entrar en el contexto de una posible historia alterna de la humanidad y de las técnicas de cortes de piedra que se han perdido (ojalá hubiera ahondado más en esto).

Pero a veces trata demasiado fuerte de encontrar el hilo negro en evidencias conceptuales e intangibles que muchas veces no tienen conexión entre ellas. En lo personal me hubiera gustado más que hablara más de las curiosas técnicas de masonería que no conocemos de las cuales si hay toneladas de correlación y pruebas físicas.

Joel D. Hirst: About 2,400,000 years ago the earth entered into an ice age. This ice age is likely still going on, there having been at least 17 interglacial periods which represented a warming of the planet, a receding of the ice caps, and then eventually a re-freezing. The glacial periods were likely about 100,000 years long, with the interglacial periods lasting about 20,000 or 25,000 years. The current interglacial period for the earth started probably around 15,000 BC.

But the current interglacial period was not like the others. Something dramatic happened, an apocalyptic event sometime around 12,800 BC, a few thousand years into the warming which simultaneously slowed down the warming (another cool period for 1000 years) while at the same time causing a massive melt-off and a massive flood. This dramatic event was likely a meteor, about 1.5km across that smashed into Greenland right around that time. This meteor would have been apocalyptic, causing a darkening of the sky, volcanos and tsunamis and earthquakes. The great flood. Noah’s flood.

None of that is very controversial. Most is well-established and increasingly better understood through the geological...

Justin McVicar: However, Graham Hancock's writing style is just so damned pretentious, as if he's the only who knows these "secrets" and is the only person qualified to tell you. Even his lead ups to the archeological discoveries can get annoying.

"They suddenly came out of nowhere, and nobody knows how...however there are several theories!" Like, really? Just get to the point. After hearing him take over podcast interviews as well, he's honestly a bit of a d-bag.

It's a good book to get you into other reading materials though, so I would recommend as a decent gateway.
