CJ: I don’t know what to write for my review, other than, just read this book. Highly recommended. I’m about to start book six now.

mhc: Ms. Burrowes has written another intense book. Lady Violet returns home and losses St. Sevier. The story flows with romance, friendship, family, and mystery. The ending is hard to take but I can't wait to see what Violet does next.

Daisymsg: I have been a reader of Grace’s books for about 10 years. I have not been as enthusiastic in the last few years because I needed something with more action less introspection. With this first Lady Violet book, I think Grace has found her true métier. Her characters are engaging, her heroine endearing, her mystery intriguing. I blessed my stars that I have more books to read! With Grace’s particular talents, this series is like an advanced romance. The heroine has the experience to want a richer life, while understanding that men are human and not a panacea.
A caveat here: Grace is an intelligent, gentle, caring person. So, if you are expecting a Dan Brown or even Dick Francis set in the 1800’s, look somewhere else. If you want characters that you like and respect, a puzzle with no blood or violent scenes, as I said a plot with advanced romance, give this a try.
Lady Violet is chosen by her brother Felix (see book 2) to be godmother to his first-born son. Dr. Hugh St Sevier is her escort again. However, he has received an invitation from old army friends to visit them in the Lake District, so he and Violet go there “on the way”. When they arrive, the interpersonal...

cheryl: Another engaging read on this series, as the characters become more familiar so the stories get better. Violet is again involved in solving a mystery, as well as family problems and her relationship with Hugh St Sevier. I don’t want to give away any of the story line but just to say I had tears at one point. I was glad to see Violet coming into her own again after her period of shutting herself away. I just didn’t want to put this book done and I’m ready to read the next in the series.

Doberdi: After reading 4 other Lady Violet books in succession, you are drawn into her life, her frustrations, and her challenges. I cannot remember when I have encountered a series that touched me to this extent. It is a great kindness that these books were released concurrently. I am writing this review while tears still stream down my checks. It’s fiction, it’s a story, it will have a happy ending. Yes, yes, I know. I also know that these stories are incredibly well written; creatively, and a bit viciously drawing the reader into the lives of each and every character. I am so tired of graphic sex scenes in otherwise delightful stories. However, Ms. Burrowes uses intelligence and elegant prose to portray episodes to love, intimacy and emotional bonding. Ms. Burrowes sets the bar at the highest rung for mystery, romance and popular literature.

Beth T. Irwin: If you love Poldark, Bridgerton, & Downton Abby, you will ADORE this! I’ve been binging this series & devoured this book in one extended sitting.
Packed with memorable characters, this book makes the aftermath of the Napoleonic war feel as recent and familiar as that of the Gulf War. Irresistible French emigre doctors, craggy Scots nobles, aristocratic house parties gone terribly wrong…and strong women doing what they must to try and save the day. The plot is as rich and convoluted as a tapestry seen in reverse. Every time you think you know where a thread is going, you find it’s tangled with another that pulls you in a different direction. Yet the breathtaking denouement manages to pull the whole thing together & I’m not ashamed to admit I was snuffling quietly at one point. No spoilers, so I’ll leave it there. Suffice it to say I have the next book already & only the late hour stops me from diving in immediately.
These can all be read as stand alone, but I strongly recommend reading the preceding books to get maximum enjoyment from the characters’ development. Knowing the background to what occurred in this book intensified a story...

M Mercer: I want to start off by saying that this series is romantic, but not romance. In some ways, it's even better and more realistic. However, the books do make me want to read all the author's romance books. She has a skill with capturing emotions.
The mystery was gentle (there were plenty of clues and foreshadowing) but the real draw (for me) was the inclusion of family and all its messy, misunderstood, miscommunicated glory. The end left me sniffling into my hanky - allergies! - but the author gave us hope. And now I must race off and buy the rest of the series to binge-read because I HAVE TO KNOW!!
With stories like these, one is torn between reading slowly (so the book doesn't end) and reading fast because you need to know what happens. Highly recommend if you like stories with 'feels'.
