Janner11: This book is perfect in every way! I’m so happy I stumbled onto it. I’ve played piano for years and even taught for a few years. I just picked up the ukulele on a whim. I am now mesmerized by it. Although I was making a little progress from other books, this one just swept me up and took my breath away. This made playing the ukulele fun like Pickelball, another one of my new favorite things to do.

BornAgainBackslider: Before I purchased this book I was a complete ignoramus about playing the ukelele.
Now, after using the book, I’m not quite a complete ignoramus.
So I guess the book works. 😁😁

review: I have several uke books and like this one best. Not only is it more complete in general but it also has useful tips/strategies not found in other books. Strums are taught in a logical way that makes them easy to learn. The layout is easy on the eyes and I appreciate the spiral binding. I know the uke is supposed to be an ‘easy’ instrument to play but I did not want an overly superficial book that scratched the surface and gave me too few tools to ever become anything more than mediocre. This book is not burdensome in its detail but simply gives me enough to be able to play reasonably (the practice is up to me of course). However — and this is a big caveat — it teaches by using tablature or ‘tab’ — which is a way for someone to play who can’t read music. I already do read music (at least to some degree). While it is not a bad thing to be able to read tab (and it is fairly easy as it is basically a diagram of the strings), I think it would be QUITE a handicap not to read music at all. So, especially if you do not already read music, I strongly recommend that you at least buy an additional book that teaches this skill. It is not that hard to learn—not any harder...
