Twilight Series Book 5: Midnight Sun - Kindle Edition

Loretta @ Quixotic Reads: After finishing this book last month, I was so befuddled that I needed to take a very long and introspective break to figure out how I even feel about this weird af book. Maybe sit alone in my dark closet and analyze my life choices. But we’re now officially running the risk of me forgetting everything I read, so I guess it’s time to write the dang thing. *Blows out a long breath* Buckle in ya’ll, I think it’s gonna be a long one.

I don’t even know where to start. Despite being a former Twilight fan in my high school years, I fully expected to hate this book. I thought getting through every page would be absolute torture. I mean, inside Edward Cullen’s mind for over EIGHT HUNDRED PAGES?? No way I’m getting out alive.

But then I got COVID and was stuck in bed for a whole weekend, and y’all, when I tell you I could NOT put this book down. I devoured it. All eight hundred and something pages. It was like witnessing a train wreck that I couldn’t look away from and I was FASCINATED by this emo stalker. And there were some actual good parts of this book that I genuinely enjoyed, which shook me to my core.

Jim: This was a differant view of things. I understand edward a lot more. It was very 1 sided . I didnt know charleyhad the same mind block that bella possesed. I will recomend this view of the book to all my reader friends.

Tanya: The well-known story from Edward's perspective! Simply amazing! I was never completely capable of undertanding him, his reactions or decisions during the whole saga. This book changed my mind about him and it makes the story complete.
Thank you, Stephenie Meyer! Thank you for being such an exquisite narrator!

Jennifer Tompkins: This book was incredible. I couldn't put it down! It has been many many years since I read the twilight series and reliving it through Edward's version was just amazing. I wish Stephanie would write all of the books from Edwards POV now!

reve2weaver: I am surprised to be so disappointed, and then again, I guess I am not.
I always resented the way the books and movies were disparaged, mostly because the misogyny was the obvious driver behind the comments. Um, now I have no way to credibly defend it, thanks to Stephenie Meyer's chauvinistic send-up in Midnight Sun.
I had expected Ms Meyer might have gleaned a bit of modern thinking from her time away from Brigham Young, particularly when it comes to the toxicity of the patriarchy. I had enjoyed Edward's flawed character seen from a young girl's naive eyes. I felt that Edward was so removed from society that he did not see his own selfishness clearly, and he became redeemed by his love and appreciation by a more modern and humanistic Bella. For example, Edward was too controlling, too sure of himself, and Bella taught him to let her lead, and to listen. After reading Midnight Sun, I can see I was wrong, and I gave his character too much credence.
So, I liked the first three books, despite their flaws. Imagine my growing dismay finding example after example that Edward is an unapologetic misogynist. Just look at how he sees Rose, and you will see a man devoid of...

DP Kindle Customer: I thoroughly enjoyed reading Edward's POV, the bonus scenes of Edward's late night visits, family discussions, and my fav scene the rush to save Bella!! Heart breaking scene when Edward watched the tape --- my only annoyance in his belief that he knows best and just disregards Bella's vision of their future together. Altho I knew he would... it still annoys me that he plans to leave at the first sign if trouble. Especially knowing that Bella will be so hurt and lifeless -- Alice shows him the truth, and he decides still that it's best to leave. Before reading this POV I gave him the benefit of the doubt -- he didn't know the pain he would inflict, but he knew and gave up anyways. I've always been team Edward, but this POV makes me hate his high handed decision even more.

Joy de Leyer: I felt compelled to respond due to the "1st negative review" I just read,(insert eye roll here) as obviously, this was not written by a lover of Twilight books/films. I have had the hardcover pre-ordered for months, but we are in the middle of a hurricane, so I had to opt and buy the kindle, due to the unlikelihood of the book being delivered today.

It's been 15 years since the first Twilight book came out, and several years when Meyer's manuscript was released on the internet. She vowed to never finish, yet, here we are, she did finish it for her fans! I have been counting down the days until this was released for the past few months.

It is the same story yet told differently. Everyone has a story but the perception is different when the other party tells the story. My husband wrote a book, he tells "our story" in a part of his memoir. Although similar, it is different due to his tone, and his recollection of events. When I tell our story it is the same story, yet there are stark differences. This is due to a different author, different verbiage, and a different tone.
