reeeeeviewer: I bought this to replace a CyberPower 1000PFCLCD which died after under 5 years of use.

When I first plugged the Tripp Lite SMART1500LCD in it had 93% as far as how much the battery was charged. The screen had a bunch of lines in it that looked kind of like digital cracks, it's hard to explain. I pressed on it lightly and they went away. These are lighter presses than removing pixel issues from an LCD screen. There was no stupid plastic all over it, unlike my previous cyberpower one.

Tested a vornado fan and it makes a weird noise when it goes on battery backup. The fan is making the noise, not the backup. Also when I turn the fan up it uses less wattage according to the battery backup. And when I turn it all the way up it says 0 watts.

I contacted support and they did a great job. They just explained that because of the modified sine wave on battery I'm going to hear that noise on the fan. I asked about if I would hear something like that with the computer and they said no and explained why. The answers check out and make sense. I tried to stay on the line afterwards to participate in the survey and it asked me on a scale of 1-10 how much would i reccommend...

Argamas: It is well built, easy to install into a server rack. Doesn't look hard to service (replace batteries).
This is definitely not meant to be installed next to a work desk, but it's not super loud either: as long as you can keep a good solid door shut where you install it, you shouldn't be able to hear it everywhere in the office/house.

It definitely does the job for my homelab, although there is no option for a network management card. But it is well supported as a USB UPS with generic drivers, so you could be using a Raspberry Pi or any server you have to read/share status with other equipment.

It loses one star because of a fan that runs at max rpm all the time even with a small 10% load. Fan controllers for small 12v fans are dirt cheap, I can't figure out why they would try cut down costs there. But at least, they are including the ears to mount the unit.

Amazon Customer: Based on another review I bought this UPS on the hope it would work on a generator. I have tried other brands but all of them react to every little fluctuations from the generator so often that they can never charge. This one has no sensitivity adjustments at all but it worked right out of the box. It almost entirely ignores load changes kicking in and out on the generator. It can charge up while the generator is running which lets me turn off the generator every so often. With other brands the battery can never get ahead.

If TrippLite is listening I would love a battery expansion ability rather than forcing me to by a larger UPS. I don’t need a bigger inverter capacity, just more battery.

Vinny: This is an excellent UPS. And, Tripp Lite makes great products in general. I have never had a significant problem with a Tripp Lite product, and, in fact, I have been using numerous Tripp Lite surge protectors since 1992, and have purchased 6 additional Tripp Lite surge protectors over the past 2 years for additional applications.

[NOTE:I have added an update/addendum at the end of this review offering some hints on dealing with the burnt plastic odor that -- according to many other reviewers, and also in my own experience -- seems to be emitted by some of these UPSs -- and was emitted by my own device -- when new and first put into use.]

After having experienced numerous unexpected failures with some 1300 VA APC UPSs over the past 5 years, I finally performed extensive due diligence (i.e., research) regarding the most reliable and robust UPSs on the market today, and I recently made the decision to switch to buying only Tripp Lite UPSs for all of my new purchases of UPSs (e.g., for replacement of old UPSs that have died, and for use in new service applications).
