Shaquita Bonita: These things are great! Used them to train my young cat to stay away from the Christmas tree. He stepped on it once and hasn't tried it since. Well worth it even if it's way overpriced. It was either that or no Christmas tree and I didn't want to go without a tree. We like Christmas festivities around here! You will need minimum of 3 to go around the tree. So it adds up. But well done! Ps I've touched them multiple times unintentionally and while on high I can tell you that it is not harmful to your pet. Depending on size. If it was a baby kitty or similar tiny size animal I might not use the high. But its definitely safe. If you're in a similar situation and it's this or no Christmas tree then just go ahead and buy it.

Fortunecat: Somewhat effective, cats definitely jump, run, and avoid stepping on the mat after one time, but to keep my sneaky cats away from my plants I’ll need several, if they’ll even fit my space right, and they’re ridiculously expensive for what they are (plastic, conduit, connections, batteries).
My two baddies figured out after one night how to sneak their clever paws behind, and into the spaces between, the curved mat, my plants, and the walls they live near. Had to arrange 5-6 empty pots in the open spaces (ugly) to try to block them (verdict still out - one cat is studying it right meow). I think I’m going to try doubling up with some Pawz Away spray deterrent stuck to one wall in the corner, for when they sneak through there. So spendy. May have to settle on houseplants as a cat salad bar :/
I’m sure though that these work fine to keep pets off countertops, sofas, etc, and my more docile cats want nothing to do with it, thus the three star rating.
PetSafe - bring the price down and I’ll buy a few more and make it work! Maybe even make a few versions and sizes with conduit only around the perimeter of the mat, and space in the middle to set object on...

Rachel A Armont: The media could not be loaded. Our two German shepherds would not stop chewing on our pre-lot Christmas Tree. We tried everything to get them to stop and nothing was working. When they got a hold of one of the lights and disabled a strip of them, we decided to take action and ordered this item to deter them.
First thing we all did was try it in ourselves, we didn’t want to HURT them, we just wanted to use it as a deterrent. It’s no worse than touching a door handle during winter (in fact I think it’s probably less of a jolt).
I was skeptical when we put them on the floor.
Well, we just ordered a new tree after seeing how effective it is!! These dogs weigh 100 pounds each, so we weren’t sure if it would work, especially only running on one 9-volt battery. It stopped them pretty quickly, and any time they forget and try it, they are reminded! Video of one reminder attached.
Now that we know that this is effective (and won’t harm them) we’ll likely be ordering more for the sofa, so we can reclaim our living room!!

ElsaElsa: After our old cat figured out how to get into our bird cage we were desperate for a solution where we could keep our cat and our birds. This little invention works like a charm. Cats are smart, it only took one step on the mat for him to figure out the boundary.

Rob T.: Works great. We had it turned on to stop the cat from trying to escape for about a week. One or two shocks and she never got on it again. We don't even turn it on anymore and it still works perfect as a deterrent.

ABC In LA: I do not typically review products I have purchased but this item is a must tell. I have a 82lb black lab that decided he wanted to take his daily nap on a brand new kitchen booth sofa made out of ultra Suede fabric. My dog would jump on this sofa and try and dig his way to a comfortable position... Based on his bear like paws, this wasn't a good fit and I tried everything to get him to stop jumping up and doing the damage to the new expensive piece of furniture. I was recommended to this product and it arrived in 1 working day, I have prime service with Amazon. To my delight I got to witness my bear/lab investigate this item once I set it up... The ScatMat has 3 settings and when reading the instructions, large dogs get the highest level... Of course I wanted to see how this would feel and it is like a carpet electric shock, not fun but not painful at all. So my lab went up to the sofa and put his nose on the scatMat and got his first little shock. He was very surprised, shook his head 3 times, looked up at me like what the heck did you just do LOL... and turned around and has never gone back... I wish I could have got this on video, it was amazing and I really tried not to laugh...

My family members and I each touched the mat on its High, Med, and Low settings and equated the sensation from (low) receiving a shock from static electricity to (high) touching your tongue to a weak 9V battery.
Neither of my cats exhibited painful reactions when they stepped on the mat. They gave a slight flinch and stepped away from the mat -- neither one jumped, became vocal, or ran.
Pros:
-Cats learned quickly to avoid the area with the mat + spray.
-Didn't have to constantly monitor the area once the mat was turned on.
-Easy set up and use.
Cons:
-It covers a VERY small area for the price. We placed our tree in a corner with couches on either side so we only had to cover a small area. If we'd set it up as we usually do, we'd have had to spend hundreds on enough extentions to protect the...
