Chowderhead: Obviously you need to exercise care when working on any gas appliance -- but this fix turned out to be pretty easy. I had a Heat N Glo Tiara Petite B that was having some ignition problems. The original installation manual (google for it) had a troubleshooting guide that suggested a voltage test on the thermopile. My thermopile was a few millivolts short of the suggested value. I replaced the thermopile with this part (careful not to cut or kink any of the small gas lines), and now it works fine.

Amazon Shopper USA: Needed a replacement unit since the fireplace wouldn't light. It supplies power to hold gas valve open only while there is flame powering it.
Big hassle to replace.

P. Epley: We have a Whirlpool water heater from Lowes - 10yr warranty model that had an error code in Yr 11. It went from a 'thermopile low voltage' to 'sensor failure' in a couple days. Most heaters use a thermocouple (one thick bare copper wire), this uses a thermopile (with red & white thin, insulated wires) that generates 750millivolts to run the heater's simple electronics. To do this repair you need to be fairly handy to replace crimp connectors, etc. I did need to reuse the original brass nut because mine used a left-handed thread. All of that said , it is operating perfectly. and a good repair for under 20bucks is good any day.
