Flapjack McQuack: I’ll start with the good news first: it is extremely portable.

Now, for the bad news: it is extremely uncomfortable, barely better than sleeping on solid ground. Definitely spend a little extra money for a higher quality pad or go for an air mattress you’re really getting what you pay for with this one. not recommended.

Renman: I love these therm-a-rest pads. They are light and, most importantly, insulate you from the cold.
I purchased this three-quarter length one with the hope that it will fit inside my sleeping bag as I have an issue with the cold coming up from the ground when I am camping.
I don’t need it for my feet, so this will be for the top 2/3 of my body. It works very well for the purpose I need.
My only complaint is how bulky it is. But I knew that going in. I do like how durable it is. It can get rained on, get mud on it, dirt. You name it. All you need to do is hose it off and it’s good to go.
But then there’s that price thing :-)

mpolys in Minnesota: Wow! We went camping in the Minnesota Boundary Waters Canoe Area in September. We knew it would be chilly and it was-2 nights of 26-28 degrees Fahrenheit. My husband and I each had a Therm-a-rest. The first night we quickly realized that the only part of our bodies that felt wam enough was where we were lying on the Therm-a-rest. The second night we both chose to sleep directly on the Therm-a-rest - put the sleeping bag over ourselves and zip our feet into the bottom of our sleeping bag. It was amazing! It wasn’t like a heating pad; it was more subtle than that. But it truly radiated our body heat back at us and we were very comfortable. I will say we were disappointed with our sleeping bags and bought new ones when we got home. I can honestly say we were and are still very happy with the Therm-a-rest and will be giving them as Presents for our family that likes to camp.

Laura: This works really well! I use it under a thermorest neolite air mattress for winter/snow camping for that extra little bit of warmth. I haven't tried it on its own so I don't know if the heat reflective element works better than the closed-cell foam pad my husband has. My thermorest neolite is all the padding I need, so I can't say how comfortable the ridgerest SOLite is on its own. I get really cold easily, but enjoy camping and kayaking so much I wanted to keep doing it through the winter. I camped in temps in the high 20's to low 30's and snow, and even in my 0 degree sleeping bag, I felt a chill in my hip and shoulder when sleeping on my side. I appreciate the extra warmth of the SOLite and the little extra padding. However, the large is really huge! Check measurements before purchasing. The large size won't fit in my kayak and it would stick out a lot from my back pack if used for pack packing. I wish I had bought something smaller. I'm thinking of purchasing the regular size.

My only complaint, like some other reviewers, is the SOLite it stiff and really hard to roll. Rolled up, its huge, about 10 inches in diameter, and really too big for easy packing. For car...

Financially Independent: This is the THE pad if you don't mind hanging a pad off the back of your pack.

SOLite isn't just a clever name for this iteration of the Ridgerest - it is really really lightweight and has replaced the old Ridgerests in all my local stores.

I recommend this over the ZLite as for my applications and methods of packing, this better fit onto my pack, and just feels like it will be more durable

The R value is about 2, and I would encourage a thicker or warmer pad for cooler temps

For summer sleeping or ultralight backpackers this is a very good pad and even moreso when you consider the low price.

I have a Thermarest Prolite and an REI Airrails that I also use. When its really cold I will use both the AirRails and this SOLite. Combined they keep my back warm down to very low temps.

Bags I use with this:
Summer - generic Nature Hike summer bag that I use like a quilt
Winter - Big Agnes Lost Ranger (recently upgraded to Summit Park) in tandem with one of my other pads in the Big Agnes Sleeve

This pad can be used to protect other more expensive pads from the rigors of direct ground or adds a nice cushion and warmth to your existing...

Mal: Therm-A-Rest are best known for introducing the self-inflating mattress back in the 1970s. But this mattress is neither inflating or self-inflating; it is of the traditional cell foam type with aluminisation one one side to improve insulation, with little increase in weight.

Overall the mattress is 15mm thick between 'ridges' but around 6m between 'valleys'. It is claimed this improves the insulation properties whilst reducing weight. I tried it out in the back garden overnight with temperature of +2C and it certainly made a big difference to the warmth, though it was still slightly cold unerneath as the night wore on.

Closed cell foam mattresses are somewhat bulkier than inflatable ones but about half the weight; they are also much more durable and this mat should last for many years. Unlike inflatable mats, closed cell foam mats can also be cut to size to fit inside your sleeping/bivvy bag which can reduce the weight and bulk and would ensure you don't slide off the mat during sleep.

In colder weather conditions it is probably advisable to use a second mattress - a good combination being a self inflatable with a closed cell foam mattress. This would add both...

Studio Gear Head: I have not found Therm-a-Rest's inflatable options to be reliable. I am only deducting one star, because this item is a bit pricey, for what it is.

I ride urban mass-transit, to get around town and there is a real possiblity that I will get stranded, on the far side of the city, after the busses stop running so, I prefer to carry SOME sort of light-weight sleep-system, with me, whenever I am going to be more than ~3 miles, from my efficiency condo, downtown.

This RidgeRest SOLite provides 3 enhancements, over a shortenned military closed-cell pad, cut to equal length ... (1) it is narrower than a military pad, and does not stick out (very far) beyond the side-pouches of my CamelBak Motherlode Hydration Pack. (2) This SOLite pad provides a modicum of heat reflectance and will insulate me from cold ground or concrete. (3) This pad also traps "dead-air" between the ridges.

I surmise that this pad is certainly a bit lighter, per linear-inch, than a military pad and will roll into a slightly more compact diameter, as well.

So ... I carry this pad, an Adventure Medical Thermalight Bivy 2.0 and a fleece sleeping-bag liner (Magellan) whenever i am more than an...
