Golden: Nice book to read before your gastric sleeve journey. Husband also read it for a better understanding of my upcoming needs.

Amy Abbotts: I am currently in the process of preparing myself for the gastric sleeve procedure. I haven't met with my physician yet to actually discuss this but I am leaning more towards the gastric sleeve than the RNY just because I feel it has fewer risks, complications, and malabsorption issues. I bought this book to educate myself a little more, and because it was HIGHLY recommended by the folks on my weight loss surgery support group online. After getting this book and looking it over, I'm super excited to jump in and start reading! At a wuick glance I'm very pleased to see there are extremely helpful images. I have always been the "learn by watching" type of person so to have illustrations is very nice. Also, I LOVE that this book has little quizzes at the end of the sections to make sure you're actually absorbing the information that you're reading. If not you can always go back and see where your issues were, reread and make sure you're ready for your procedure! While I still have a long, long way to go I believe this book will be a HUGE help in making my gastric sleeve a success in a big, big way! I am definitely pleased that I made this purchase, especially for the price. Every...

inamood: While it has a lot of great material in it, I found it a bit too vegan in it's stance.
Throughout the whole book it constantly says (a lot) that you shouldn't eat chicken, beef or pork and that they all have too much fat in them. Eat fish, and veggies that is all. I didn't buy the Pescetarianism's Ultimate Gastric Sleeve Success book. So yes, I am disappointed at the constant push.

The Broonz: Dr Vuong's book starts out as a good way for those who recently had gastric sleeve surgery to think about food from a texture standpoint, helping to recognize when gastric sleeve patients are experiencing discomfort, eating smaller bites, etc. This is about 1/3 of the book.
The other 2/3 of the book is Dr. Vuong proselytizing about his stance on the food industry, "eat this and not that," and enforcing, in some cases, a pescetarian diet. He's extremely repetitive, often mentioning things such as "Margaritas have 600 calories," "alcohol has empty calories," "broccoli is a better calcium resource than milk," "gardening with your children," "preservatives are bad," etc. The book turns into a lifestyle adjustment and not geared toward WLS patients. For example, "Kizzie's Rule" which is you can eat as much fruit and vegetables as you like invokes how many people got to where they are--grazing. Fruit still contains natural sugar and causes an insulin spike--thus creating said hunger. Secondly, sleeves can't handle constant eating nor drinking "BIG GLASSES OF WATER." Man, and boy is he cautious about dinner parties and the Super Bowl. How about talking about the science behind the...

Beagz Buyer: I entered into gastric sleeve surgery shockingly (for me) under-informed - I guess I didn't know what I didn't know, to the extent that I was clueless. Turns out, though I had my surgery a week ago at "Boston's best hospital" (aren't they all?) I got little-to-no individualized attention or consideration, and throughout received canned responses and lowest common denominator information.
Enter Dr. Vuong's book. Without it I truly - no joke - could not have done this journey even to the extent that I have. I luckily found it through searching Amazon, ordered it, and spent the month before surgery reading and re-reading it. Suddenly I had informed questions to ask! Suddenly I felt like I'd indeed have a normal life when the initial stages were over - but not the SAME life. Yes, I"d have an ice cream with my son again, or tapas in Spain. But no, I'd not revert to doing all the same things that had brought me to the miserable point of surgery in the first place.
Dr. Vuong is a gastric patient's best friend, no kidding, and I"m not a relative :) . His little video shorts are wonderful, his seemingly simple (and poorly named) "Weight Loss Surgery Success" a useful, concise...

Eness: This book was really informative and puts a lot of things into perspective- ie. going with the sleeve, what to do, whether you're committed or not. The book is a short read but with a lot of information. Read it before you have surgery- there's a lot of information that he doesn't sugar coat.
