Breather: Well written, very informative!
As a post Rouen Y bariatric surgery patient from 9 years ago I am now able to eat larger portions again so I appreciated the section of the book on food addiction/craving. To paraphrase: when I am hungry any food fulfills the need, when I crave a particular food, that is addiction. I have been in denial of my food cravings.
From other work I have done on addiction I learned that denial is the inability to self evaluate. So the book has been very helpful for me to get a new perspective on my food intake
I am trying to remember to drink water, breath deeply, meditate until the urge goes away. For a few years post surgery I was able to "successfully" use alcohol to destress, until that behavior caused problems. I learned that I can not use any amount of alcohol. This book was recommended to me by my doctor, the author's uncle, and has been a very good and timely refresher for what I need to know about eating Well. Thanks!

Jules: This is the first book on nutrition that I can't argue with. All other food plans seem to at least something debatable. It's quick and simple to read and makes total sense.

Lizzie Dripping: Very interesting book filled with explanation of why the modern western diet is so bad for us & why we need to adopt a vegetable based diet. If you are trying to eat healthily, lose weight or considering bariatric surgery this is a good book to read. This is the way to eat whether you are dieting for weight loss or have had surgery already and wish to keep off the weight.

Adurna_girl: Okay, for the person who said "fruit and beans is not enough" ... You didn't read the freaking book! Even at the strictest point, it recommends 3-4 servings (3-4 oz each) of protein a day! And it emphasizes veggies over fruit (fruit to satisfy sweet tooth).
To the person who said they can't eat a pound of salad a day... Like, don't eat salad then! I have had maybe one salad since I started this 5 weeks ago! I eat veggies raw as snacks, bake them, roast them, fry them, microwave them, add them to smoothies, etc! You'd be surprised how easy it is to get your veggies in when they make up 3/4 of your plate!
In the past 5 weeks, I've lost 17 lbs. so far. And that's with "cheating" a little bit. 90% of my diet is right though.
I have more energy and I'm not starving! I'm satisfied! The first few weeks were tough so I ate a ton as my body adjusted and my metabolism reset. It's a journey and I'm far from over.
My grandma has hypothyroidism, stage 3 kidney disease, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes. Her DOCTOR recommended this book for her. I started this because of that! I was trying to motivate her to follow through! She hasn't, but she is eating more healthy...

Gloriann: This book is my answer to years of struggle with morbid obesity. I have weight loss surgery (VSG) about a year before I found the book. At this point my weight loss has slowed down significantly and I was worried that the amount of food that I could eat would prevent me from being as successful in my efforts as I had planned. After surgery I was pretty strict about following a low carb diet and counting my calories, but as I kept hitting plateaus and struggling with food I had a feeling like I was missing something. Enter A Pound of Cure. After reading the book I decided to give it a try...hey it was from a bariatric surgeon so that it the same as MY surgeon saying it's ok, right? LOL After just a week of eating a pound of vegetables a day (I depend on smoothies to do this) and limiting my animal protein to 8 oz day I had lost 5 lbs! Woot wooot! I was still tracking my calories at the beginning but I have stopped that now. When I stick to the program the weight loss feels effortless. I never have to feel hungry or deprived and I feel that everything I eat provides the true nutrition that my body has been craving my whole life. I truly feel like my metabolism is working better now....

Tammy: This is a awesome book and we'll worth the money. I am a gastric bypass patient of 5 years. I have had a tough time the past year (I won't bore you with the details) my doctor retired and I haven't been about to find a replacement or a local support group. In my search I ran across a YouTube video with dr Mattew Weiner talking about WLS and his program/book A Pound A Cure.
A pound a cure program works for any one. This program is not a diet but a lifestyle change. If you need to lose weight because you have lost control of a healthy diet or your looking to get back on track weight lose surgery or not THIS IS THE BOOK YOUR LOOKING FOR!!
Dr Weiner explain how to reset your metabolic thermostat with out having weight loss surgery or having to spend hundreds of dollars on program fees, diet food and other other products that leave you unsatisfied and still hungry and that also contain all sorts of chemicals that elevate your metabolic thermostat which results in weight gain. I bought this book last week and started on stage 1 and I have already lost 6 lbs.
I recommend this book to any one that is wanting to lose weight and feel great.
Thank you Dr Weiner...
