55 year scifi: This book emphasize the work of American and French women who risk their lives and loves to help free France from German occupation. Some of them suffered horrifically with some surviving and some not. It is a great story of triumph over adversity and the power of love.

Miche58: WWII has hidden gems of strong, brave, determined women. The real life cameos woven into this historical fiction are lovely. Our heroines are honest and have fire. They push through the masculine domination with grace. Thank you for this history and the story it invoked.

Ali Mansell: A good story but somewhat pedantic in style with repetition and unnecessary detail. Sadly a gigantic m
istake was in the last few pages. A bouquet of TULIPS in August in 1944! Oh, and Sancerre is nowhere near Chambord.
Never mind. Good tale.

prncss1204: Jane Healy has done it again! I loved her previous two novels, especially The Beantown Girls, and she has solidified herself as an auto-buy author for me.
The Secret Stealers tells the story of Anna Cavanaugh, a young widow and French teacher in Washington, D.C. who is recruited by WWI hero, Major General William Donovan to join the OSS (Office of Strategic Services) as an American spy in Paris. We follow Anna as she is recruited, trained, and ultimately joins the Resistance movement in France, spying on German officers and passing the intelligence gathered back to London.
While the impact of the OSS continues to be debated by historians, President Dwight D. Eisenhower once said of it, “If the OSS had done nothing else, the intelligence gathered alone before D-Day justified its existence.”
Fun fact: A character in the story, Julia, is none other than real-life Julia Child, before she became a culinary sensation.
Full disclosure: I listened to the audio of this book and it was just ok. The narrator was a bit too much for me, but the story more than made up for it. I would recommend reading the book over listening.

suzialoe: Loved this book, found it very hard to put it down. I know it's a fiction book, but I'm quite sure the events described in the book, were carried out by very brave people - unsung hero's. It covers love, loss, emense strength, daring raids - a truly remarkable book , a must to reason.

M. Jackson: I have been immersed in books, fictional and factual, about the spy and resistance efforts in England and France mostly during the Second World War for over a year now. This book, like so many others has been researched well and even though there are complementary scenarios and facts by numerous authors, that just served to enhance my enjoyment. My father was part of the RAF/RCAF forces and his information and influence have made me so sympathetic with those years it’s as if I was part of them even though I was among the many children born to happily reunited couples after the war. For all those readers who may feel a similar connection, young or boomers, this book will move you and reinforce an appreciation for all who fought that dark oppression be they male or female and sacrificed so much emotionally, physically and spiritually because they knew they had to.

debbidoo1: I was hooked very quickly and looked forward to my reading time each day. I didn't want the story to end. I like stories with strong a female protagonist. This book had everything I wanted and it was fun to find out that so much of I was based on true stories from WWII.
